If you're looking for a simple drop in, you're looking for the 5SFE. Also consider, now would be a decent time to change the tranny if you want. Depending on how many miles the current one has, or if you prefer a manual to an auto, or whatever.

Start by looking on Craigslist and ebay. There's also neat search engine for junkyards, someone should bring the link in pretty soon.

Welcome and you have come to the right place. As Chris has mentioned, start looking for parts via ebay, parts for sale on this site, and other toyota forums. If you have questions this site has answers in some sort of fashion.

if you want to get way into it now would be a great time to throw in a 3sgte, its a bit more work but its a good motor from what i have heard

Prolly another good way to find the motor for your car would be to search the forums and pm ppl

if you have yards in your area with celicas, you could probably get one thats been in a rear end collision or with just a bad tranny with a good motor at a good price.

Ok so i have decided to go with the 5sfe. How nice of an engine is that. it has a 5s in it now but with aftermarket cams i am going to just transfer over. for now that will be all i will do to the motor i have to do some body work. will that be throw out a decent amount of power like 140-150hp i really no nothing about the 5s as i had a 86 and 87 mr2.

the 5S really isnt that bad of a motor, mine has over 222k on it now and still runs perfect. They are peppy enough, not anything major but they'll get you up to speed in a low amount of time.

5SFE stock is 130hp. With aftermarket cams you may be looking at 140-150hp.

I have heard that they are notorious for throwing rods and cracked blocks. but this will just be a temp motor untill i save up for the 3sgte. so i guess it will be fine im not much into the streetracing world i would really like to get into some autocross and. have some fun in the twisties

The 5SFE is one of the most reliable toyota engines. It isnt notorious for anything except reliability. Most of us on this forum have cars over 150k miles. Many over 200k miles. I am at around 190k and still running stock, UNOPENED, engine.

the one thing I've found to be a common issue for them is an oil leak due to a busted o-ring on the oil pump, mine did it. Other than that, I havent had any issues

OMG i love celica tech such fast responses. lol thx for the advice.
My girlfriends dad called a muscle car restoration place today cause the owner owes him one( he cought someone trying to break in) and hes looking for a 5s for me. also mr2guru has one that i want but the money is an issue not that its to much for it . its just my financial situation being a janitor at michelin for 7 an hour isnt that great.

what is a fair price for a 5s rebuilt or not

mine 5sfe is going on 207,000 with a main seal leak :) i do love the motor even at high RPMs it just keeps wanting more, i dont ever recommend bad driving and do it at your own risk but i hit 100mph on the freeway the other night(late enough there was no traffic) and i could of kept pushing it but i really shouldnt be risking another speeding ticket

bump for a good motor price
