Owner's manual lists the maximum trailer weight (trailer and cargo) as 1500 lbs for a 4AFE, 2000 for a 5SFE.

You also have to watch the load capacity for the car -- include yourself, any added equipment (e.g. audio, dampening), cargo and tounge weight. Max is 750 lbs for the 5SFE.

Towing a vehicle with the drive wheels on the ground is a bad idea regardless if it's an auto, the pump won't be running, so no lube for the trans gears that are spinning.

Do you have AAA?

^ werd.

buy a diesel. you can tow whatever you want with it

no no on an ST. try and get the escape again, it'd have a way better chance.

you know how to tow a car, right? what are you going to be using?

Get the SUV thing.. rent at least a two wheel dolly from Uhaul and be done with it, like they said, don't flat tow it either way and your poor ST would be pretty dangerous to tow it with (even if you put a hitch on it and used the car dolly/transport), even if you disregard the beating the transmission would take, it wouldn't really be equipped to actually stop if you had to do it quickly since the thing it would be towing outweighs it by a good shake.

well there is no way of me getting the suv now because they said they dont think the the hitch on it is strong enough to hold a car? so i think they are just making up excuses for me not to use it. my uncle said i could use his trailer he used to haul his 1970 plymouth gtx

03-23-2008, 08:28 PM
actually the escape is rather weak...ex gf's mom has one and I got to drive it, they hate hills. That is, unless she has a high end model, I believe those ones have more pep to them. I do agree with alltracman, you wont be getting any lube for the auto trans cuz of the pump, a manual wouldnt really matter

If i were you I would get ur grandmas suv or borrow a friends pickup or something and head over to a UHaul and rent a car tow ramp
