ST and GT in the US. I don't think there was a GTS, but i could be wrong, that statement is nagging at me.

ST205 GT4 in other markets, and there was other variants out there that got the BEAMS motor, the SSII i think or something like that.

We only got the 7afe or the 5sfe, take your choice.

Canada received a Celica with the GTS badging -- basically, the US got the GT with the optional Sport package, Canada got the GT and GTS. Same engines, the sport/GTS got a stiffer (two-valve) suspension and generally more of the interior features.

And there was the ST, which in the sixth gen actually lacked a badge.

Think about it in terms of chassis codes, which tell you block type, car, generation and trim level.

AT200 -- A block engine, T = FWD Celica, 20 = sixth gen, 0 = ST, with a 7AFE
ST204 -- S engine, 4 = 5SFE

The GT with optional sport package is pretty much a GTS in the states. Still you'll be stuck with the 5S-FE motor. The GT with the sport package handles pretty good and the ride is not bad. The MR2 is really good and if your friend gets the MR2 Turbo he'll be really happy. If he prefers the celica then he could get a 94-95 Celica GT and swap in a 3S-GTE. Reason for the 94-95 Celica is because the MR2 turbo ended in 95. Rules are that you could only swap in engines of the same year and newer.

^Most midwest states don't have that silly rule.

I could put a 1988 Alltrac motor in my 93 coupe if i wanted to.
