View Full Version : Glove Box Cup Holder (And head unit install)

So for a while now I have been wanting to swap head units and fill in the hole in my center console left from the OEM radio and not having a filler kit for this car.

What I came up with was a combination of a fifth gen Celica Cubby and some small black plastic panels to fill the rest in.

Originally, the other day while at the junk yard, I wanted to get a pop out Toyota cup holder to stick as a DIN slot on my console under the cubby, which didn't work because the cup holder wasn't a full DIN.

So without further adue, here is my custom project:

I decided to stick this cup holder in my glove box.

Equipment and required stuff:

--1995 Toyota Camry dual slot cup holder (Not spring loaded so it won't break)
--DupliColor black plastic and vinyl paint (If you can't find one to fit your color)
--Two black long screws to go through the stock mounting holes.
--Cup of Loctite epoxy for the top of the cup holder for extra hold

Here's the process in pictures:

Installed but closed

Open with drink!

Open side shot without drink

And I just put the head unit in and a cubby (Also painted trim DEEP gunmetal/black metallic)

The cool thing about my cup holder is that it looks OEM and functions well. I can also fit my owners manual and case under it and my cigars on the side still. It turned out really well. The only drawback is having to have the glove box open to use it....but for passengers or if I get more drinks on fast food runs for people, it works just great.

looks nice man. but if your driving at night and your headlights are on, wont the glove box light be lit? i would think its a bit distracting.

Ignore them haters, anything that can hold a drink and looks OEM is sweet. I have coffe stains on the crotch of every pair of pants I own because of the 5th gens virtually vestigal and unbearably breakable cup holder.

So yeah, thats really sweet. You could probebly even get two cup holders in there eh?

I don;t even know if the bulb in my box is good or not

Personally I think that's an awesome mod! :D

Toyota's excuse for two dimples in a piece of plastic and calling them "cup holders" is pitiful. Should have sent those engineers to put a cup of scalding hot coffee in the "cup holder" and take a corner at 5mph...
