Get a dodge if you are gonna get a diesel, Cummins is by far the best diesel out there for all around power, mpg, ease of maintenance, and reliability. But why such a massive truck?? Whats wrong with a good old tundra, tacoma, frontier, etc..??

thanks for the help! ill look in the trucktrader when i get home....

I like big trucks.... i want to have a big truck to piss off my family cause ill take up all the driveway.... its a 8 car driveway, and there are 5 cars in it, im NOT about to park a brand new truck in the street...

so cummins > duramax?!?

I can give diesel advice because i tune my bros cummins. Cold air intake, new boost tubes and intercooler, 4 or 5 inch exhaust (your choice) turbo back, either banks or edge power tuner with 5 stages of tuning, injectors, etc etc. Theres more, depends on what you want to do. I like the cummins engine too.

are you going to be towing anything? why get a diesel unless you need it? the fuel is more expensive, and they are usually more money to fix.

juggernaut
02-29-2008, 01:11 AM
diesels get better fuel mileage, and have less maintainence. having a V8 diesel is not necessarily a bad thing. the duramax is a great engine. its just that the inline diesels are more proven. kenworth, mack, freightliner, all have strait 6 blocks. the cummins is a better overall engine than the duramax though. more reliable, better mileage, and a hell of a lot of power potential. 1000 ft/lbs torque is achievable. which type you get really depends on your plans for it.

I thought you and your wife (your married right?) were trying to take it easy with the spending? This truck is a rather expensive one.

Most people get that truck when they got something to haul frequently. It just doesn't pay to own one if your just driving it around unless you got cash to burn.

I happen to be fond of my 12.8L Detroit Diesel. 6 Cylinder Mercedes Power FTW! Straight 10 Eaton Transmission. It will go where you tell it.

Seriously though, there is no reason to own a diesel truck if you have no intention to haul anything. It is wasted potential otherwise.

Here are the stock specs straight from the Detroit Diesel site:

350 HP @ 1900 RPM/ 1350 LBFT @ 1100 RPM

Yeah, you read that right, 1350lb/ft of torque.

Not really. Ive always wanted to buy a 2door, extended cab, short bed with no 4x4, with the cummins engine instead of the hemi. Oh and eventually get rid of the stock tranny and go with a after market 5 speed auto or if i can get it with a 6 speed manual i will.

yeah we are lol, but we are going to do a long term payment thing with the truck so the payments wont be that big, and i dont plan on ever selling it..... So ive been looking at the Dodge trucks, whats better, the 1500, 2500, 3500??

Thnx bruce lol, so helpful with the peewee herman car.......not to mention the ban talk, your so nice....

Where is NK in here? I would think this would be something that he would like to input on....

Im not towing anything now, but i want a diesel for trips and one day to tow my celica to races :D, im going to keep it (but the wife wants it gone for money toward the truck!) and still fix it.... soon i can get that job i want and get good money and make bigger payments so the payments will be done faster...

from what I hear the older duramax were way underbuilt (like a modified gasser)... the old fords (pre-powerstroke, made by international not ford) were near invincible and were easy to work on (all mechanical no computer)... the cummins is the best of the new diesels... if I was to have something that large I would rather it be a V engine.... just personal preference...

lol toyota diesel.

ok so you're buying a truck to haul a "race car" you haven't built yet. um... ok.

isn't that kinda like wiping before you poop?

and you don't NEED a diesel to haul around one car. i have a 1991 toyota pickup 4x4 V6 with a bad valve, and i towed my 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass around town just fine with it. lol

as said before, i'll believe it when i see it, because honestly all i see is different stories, different things you're going to buy, and theres no proof. i'm not even sure if you own a celica, because the only picture you have is of the front end taken apart. and if you got that one on the comp, why can't you get anymore on?

ok... anyways, good luck buying the 3sgte/diesel truck/7th gen you're getting.

since when do they make a diesel in the 1500?

not till 09 last time i checked...

and an 07 or 08 diesel is gonna set you back close to $40k.. how are you affording this?

also look at putting at least $1000 for a programmer, $1000 for exhaust, $300+ intake, gauges, etc, etc

I don't think they've made a supercharged cummins anytime in recent history...

none that im aware of either.... and you need alot more then that to get 680hp and 1040lb/ft...... cuz according to bullydog you can only add 209hp with their downloader to a dodge... and i doubt that truck started with over 400hp stock......

extremeskillz
03-01-2008, 02:31 AM
The dodge starts at 300hp stock. And yes you need about 5k to even start putting on the good stuff on a diesel. My bro has edge not bully dog. Gives up to 100 extra safe horsepower. He just installed a intake yesterday and it bitching now. Next is exhaust, 4" S.S. all the way back. Hopefully one day he does the full turbo piping and upgraded intercooler then it will breath even better.

Didn't you just say in a couple posts before that you didnt have internet at home? Does that mean you chose not to or because you cant afford it at home?

because jesus christ if you cant afford <50$ a month for internet how are you going to afford a $40k truck?

Is your life really as big of a train wreck as it sounds on the forums?

I mean, like... i don't know to be mean or cry depending on the post.

actually, yes it is..... so many things happen day to day that it gets out of control.... in two days i went from truck shopping to being shot down to nothing and now trying to get a $2100 Mazda thats in my aunts front yard hiding in the shadows of her husbands Dodge RAM1500 and 1998 Chevy Malibu.....

Well, i mean, honestly... if your credit is that bad that you've gone from a $40k vehicle to trying to score a $2k beater... You would think you would have at least had some idea of that ahead of time.

I know i don't have great credit, so i don't even bother trying to find stuff like that, and i will not even look at a car if it costs more than $1k.

Do you guys really NEED another car?

It just sounds like your priorities aren't in place. I was like that at one point, and now i'm working on getting my shit back together. I don't go out and spend a buttload of money at the bar like i used to, i don't buy stupid crap constantly, i don't eat out 5 days a week.

And i used to be able to afford to do that. Times change, jobs change, and you gotta figure out what you really need to survive comfortably. Do you need 4 phones?

She is 19, thats the thing... she has credit..... last time she checked (last year) it was at 7.4

we really do need another car because the celi is busted, and my dad took my SUV, so now we have nothing..... i dont have time to reassemble the celi, or the rest of the pieces, so thats out of the question....
