Killer deal ill say. My friend bought a silvertop 20v, got in over his head with stuff and just wanted his car to run, didnt want to finish it and traded me straight up for my 16v. WTF YAY FREE 20valve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wiggle: :thefinger

It took 1.5 hours to pull the old engine. I put it in his car the next day and got it to run. I love corollas!

Today I pulled apart the 20v and cleaned and painted everything. so far so good, the engine was in great shape no sludge or anything i was amazed. anyway here are a few teaser pics. Ill post more when i get to it.

Also pulled the tranny apart to repair some syncros, its amazingly simple.

manual transmissions are quite simple, its the automatics that can be a pain in the ass, royally. That sounds like a great trade as long as its in good working order. What year was the 20V made? I know VW has been at it for a little while cuz my friend has a 20V turbo Jetta, but didnt know toyota was doin it too. Anyway I wunna know how it performs in the AE86, a kid that I go to school with has one too

Silvertops came out in 1991 in the AE101 Corollas. Lasted until 96 or so. Blacktops lasted until 2000 in the AE111 Corollas.

Andy, did you get just the motor, or everything like wiring, ecu, afm, ignitor, coil?

A 1.6L NA 20V blacktop 4AGE makes as much power stock as a 1.8T 20V VW motor

i disagree with celicagt90_05... manual tranny are easy, but so are automatics...

automatics are simple due to the fact they have nothin but clutches in em... alls u have to do is replace the clutches in there and ur good to go... but i guess its easy for me to say that since thats wat i work on...

congrats andy10889 on the killer steal for that motor... good luck with the corolla build keep us posted!

weak sauce! j/k nice pickup, a couple of my freinds here in town have an AE86 with a 1GGTE in line 6 with a t4 turbo and the other has a 96 corolla with a 20v Turbo puttin down 312hp they are both pretty sick!

Thats a great deal!

I wish someone would say, "Hey I hate turbos so trade me your 2JZGE for my GTE."

Only dreaming.

I have to agree with an auto being harder than a manual. Manual's very very easy. I remember them being easy from a child's age watching my grandpa rebuild his on his old Ford truck he used for work.

not always true, its not always gonna be your problem. If you know what you're doing, sure automatics arent all that hard, but manuals are quite a bit more simple. Plus, when you replace the clutches, you gotta make sure the clutch pack clearance adds up properly or you're gonna run in to some issues, but you cant do that with a manual since they dont have clutches in them. Some times it could be a problem with the pressure regulator, the valve body, the planetaries, etc. Thats just how I feel about it, they do get really complex some times

How long until you start converting the harness? If you beat me to it, mind giving me some pointers?

The only thing relevant in that thread is "Once I had everything unloomed, I began modifying the harness to suit my new ECU, which has a significant number of changes as far as where wires go on the ECU plugs. Also, I had to remove the AFM plug and add plugs for an intake air temperature sensor (that I got from a fifth gen. Celica ST) and a manifold absolute pressure sensor (that I got from a sixth gen. Celica ST.) None of the body harness plugs had to be changed, except for the circuit opening relay, which now gets its FC signal from the ECU, rather than the AFM on the old setup.

it ran tonight. very loud. sounded like it was camming with open manifold. had to fix one bad ground and then it idled fine. needs the wiring cleaned up and a couple more sensors installed, exhaust header, and a few more things....very nice sounding though.

Thats a pretty sweet deal, nothing like a free 20V. Love the ITBs, the sound is unreal. I'm gonna run some velocity stacks on my blacktop after I get done beefin up the valvetrain with TODA springs and Supertech valves, and also some form of a/f controller.
