I was looking through the local Auto RV and came across a 2001 Celica GT 5-speed. Its silver, steel rims with plain looking wheel covers, and no external body mods. Ad says it has a custom exhaust and K&N air filter.

They want $3,600.

The catch is: Runs rough and has a knock.

It says it has 85,000 miles. How could this be? Are there any adjustments that could be made to get it to run right or am I SOL

any vehicle can be sol @ 85,000 mistreated.....

I have read alot about the 7th gen gt's starving for oil and burning up rings... I know theres alot of people on newcelica.org who have had that issue... but its not uncommon to go through a motor with a 7th gen gt around 100k.

yeah that thing is probably shot, could always pick up a low mile 1zz-fe from a celica, mrs, vibe, corolla, matrix and drop it in. thats what i did. got one from a 04 vibe.

1zz and 2zz = failed toyota motor, if you look at it it in terms of durability and reliablity

the 4g63t last longer than those things :(

just get a toyota truck :wiggle:

you cant be any more wrong! the 2ZZ-GE is a fantastic engine. yes the 1ZZ's had a few issues in the early models but those have all been fixed, along with the lift bolt issue on the 2ZZ. but to say it is a failed engine is just false. alot of issues these egnies have is from owner error and poor maintenance

I couldn't agree more. Look at the Consumer Reports ratings... They have the most comprehensive access to repair records available anywhere. You'd be hard pressed to fins a car better rated that doesn't cost $20K more. I know because that's what lead me to buy a Celica.

Now, if you consider engine problems caused by teenagers (no offense to those present) redlining the engine all of the time with 3 year old motor oil, low coolant... to be an engine defect, then I might agree with the other comments above.

Gen. 7's have very good engines. Maybe not the best Toyota has ever put out, but still very good.

i just bought a gts so i hope they have good engines and will last me.....i need it too last but the car seems fine and only has 64000km's on it......as for the original post 3000$ for a 7th gen celica is extremly low money for one of those so id say its a pos and was probably miss treated
