okay, so a few days ago i got t-boned, and the drivers side of my car is pushed in, I have a plan but i dont know how feasible it may be, i know itll take quite a bit of work but i want to hear what you guys have to think about it. Considering the Drivers door is f*%&ed i am going to get a new one of those, and pull the skin off of it and the passenger side door, straighten out the rear quarter and instead of having the door's, weld in 3 sections of 1" tubing or bigger and then tack the door skin on to those, those will hold the weight, of cutting the top, i want to cut out a targa top, my car has a sunroof but it doesnt work, so i figure the targa top would look way cooler too. Anyways, i figure, from one rear of the drivers to the other side same spot, leave an inch or two after the front windshield, and roll all the sheet metal so the edges look nice. lemme know what ya think.

I also don't think it's legal. Maybe it would be if you added all the necessary reinforcement, but that in itself would probably be quite a job. There are regulations about how much roof material you are allowed to remove for safety reasons. The unibody is made to only be properly rigid with the roof in-tact.

i dont know, thats what i keep hearing from everyone is that it might not be legal, i pretty much intend now thats its going to be, but i guess ill find out when i start driving it if i do it. i have a lead on a ford thunderbird with a 5.0 for 800, then i can drive that while im working on it. i dont know, i live in minnesota, cops arent horribly strict here. and plus, it would be a summer car.

lol i agree.... the targa top looks like sheeite on the celi.... honestly, thats got to be the ugliest thing you could ever do to a celica.... even that "sucessful" one was hideous.....

i think its more or less the cars that they have been doing it to. That purple one looks like shit cause they blocked off those windows on the side, which i think looks lkike shit, and they have an ugly ass ebay body kit on it. Obviously we can all tell why the other one is f-ugly. I think a stock Celica, in good looking condition

It will also leak. (almost guaranteed, considering even factory ones often have to have the seals replaced after a few years)

If you do cut the top...BEEF UP THE DOORS! The reason, is because the doors will be taking all the loading while the top is removed. I remember my MKIII Supra going down a washboard gravel road and visually/physically being able to notice the car twisting... And mind you this is a car designed from the factory to be targa.

It'd be interesting to see the inside of a door on a convertable Celi and see what is different.

like i had said, i plan on this being a summer car. its not gonna have a top to go in there or anything, its gonna be open, 100% of the time, and because i got hit, im not going to have door, im going to fix the quarter panel that is smashed in, and then weld in 3 sections of 1 1/2 inch tubing where the door jambs are, then take the door skins and weld them on from there so it would appear as though i have doors, but really i dont, i also wouldnt have side windows either.

That's an opinion, not a fact. I'm sure there a lot of people think that Celicas are god awful too...but yet we love them. :D

So you think that the targa tops look good on celicas??? If you said yes, your either blind, or have a very bad sense in style....

Personally, no. I am more of a fan of it being on Supras...however that's my opinion and it's no more valid than the person who created this thread. If he wants a targa top Celica all the power to him, but he will have to beef up the doors to make it happen, that's a concrete fact not a paper thin opinion.

i just have strong opinions on the abuse of a cars style.... celicas arent stylish enough stock to roll with a t-top..... the vert is pushing it, the car is a little bulky for a vert....
