View Full Version : What The Head Is Going On Here?

I am new to the Celica scene. I am a converted Prelude owner.

I have three 86-87 Celica GT-S's. One of the motors what suppose to be some sort of high performance setup with a non-standard head on it. It has markings of "11111-88360 Yamaha" on the front above the exhaust ports. All of my other GT-S heads do not have this marking.

Yesterday I bought another car and it had this same marking on it. So I am confused. I know that Yamaha has partnered with Toyota for many years so I am not surprised to learn that Yamaha built Toyota's heads but I am not sure why some of the heads have this marking and some don't.

What do these markings mean? What is the difference, if any. Thanks for any help.

No difference, Yamaha designed the heads.

Then why do some have the markings and some not?

Probably some where made at Yamaha and some where made at Toyota... Either way, all of them are Yamaha design and any performance gain would be minimal if any.

Yeah, the only difference I know of between the heads is the FE vs GE vs GTE. Other than that, they're basically the same.

The early versions of the GT-S Head did not come with the Yamaha logo our part number- They where introduced when the AllTrac was designed.

What year was the alltrac introduced?

I have two 86 GT-S's, one with the Yamaha markings and one without?

Doesn't have anything to do with the alltrac, yamaha designs all of toyotas G series heads.

FYI Toyota owns most of or all of Yamaha.

The timing covers of the 3SGTE have YAMAHA on them
