I heard that in 92 the motors got more power and torque. from what i've been reading it says that the 1991 GTS has only 130 hp and 140 torque. can anyone verify this? its a 2.2l

thanks for your time.

No offense brother, but you posted this 3 times in 2 different sections. I suggest you consolidate your questions into a single post (maybe this one ;) ) and delete the other two. You'll get just as many responses I assure you.

To the best of my knowledge factory HP on a GT or GTS is 135. Not sure about the TQ specs though, sorry.

the torque is like 142-145, I dont remember exactly but I dont know about it gaining any more power in 92, all I know is they changed the valve cover design with it being the same basic motor.

about a 130HP factory, read my other post you'll find your TRUE hp is 110hp+/- due to conditions mileage

I think he was more curious as to the factory specs... but you are absolutely correct Rusty :)

Thanks Mr.Celica, but where exactly did you get these specs from? I posted a couple threads because I keept getting diffrent numbers when it came to specs and I need to know. The reason is because if my car exceeds 140hp and 140 torque I wouldn't be allowed to race in 2008. I think if anyones ever built a racecar and knows how much work it takes they'll know what i'm getting at. I just can't waste a whole winter building a car in the end I can't race.

Let me know your source.

the specs i posted were the factory specs i got off of edmunds.com. thats rated at the flywheel. with an older car you might be pushing 112whp to the wheels as rusty said

whats a good way to restore the motor back to its spec hp?

in my opinion if u are rallying id tell u to go get an awd car. but i donno. u can be like that one car on to gear where they drive across africa in ff cars. haha, the best way to restore ur 52fe up to original power would be to rebuild it. and with the cost of rebuilding it id say just invest in a 3sgte.

Mr Celica

even rebuilding it it would only be about 112whp. the rating of 130hp is to the flywheel. 112whp is a rating from the wheels on a dyno. you can always rebuild your 5sfe by doing cams, valves, porting, yadda yadda yadda. what is the power range (to the wheels) you are aiming for?

slow/slower

its a great engine, i loved mine. just not a fast one. well not without any boost. heh. Id go 3sgte. :wiggle:

It maybe slow on the streets against some other cars but in my class the main competition are the escorts (90-96), talons (89-94), probes (89-94), and the odd isuzu and supra. Also this class doesn't allow turbos, rotary, or awd. Engines cannot exceed 140 hp and 140 torque as well and wheelbase must be under 100 inches. Think my cars got a chance?

How do they know what you're running?

fold out dyno? presume they dyno it before you can join/race??

I wish we had a track dyno but our track is yet to invest in one. There are lots of cheaters out there that would be canned so fast! I think the reason we don't is most of the higher V8 classes are mad that we go so fast and the track owner is V8 person himself. Plus they call our class an "entry level class".

Ha once this car is declassified I will post some pictures and some movie links. That'll be sometime in spring.

They don't know cause our track has no dyno but we are selves race clean and from our long history of racing, cheating to win is not a glorious thing. Also what would my sponsors think.
