About 5hours ago I finalized ownership of a 2002 celica GT manual, I then spend the next 2hours on the road jumping on and off freeways and doing generally autocrossy type things in large church parking lots :D

The car rocks, I'm lovin it!

This is meant as a daily driver while I work on building my project, which is a 2.5L 16v stroker b230 volvo motor:) I'm building up the wagon for drag and show...Hopin (traction permitting) to run mid 11's in the quarter!

In the mean time I've got this awesome car to tool around town in! Since I am a bit of a freak and I'm sure as soon as i have some spare dough I'll be trying to make the car either handle better or go faster, I look forward to doing alot of reading in the next few weeks.

Oh yeh, the car is white:)

Welcome. We will all be interested in both projects, so post away :)

Welcome! The volvo build sounds interesting.

thanks for the welcome, both of you:)

It's been a long time since I drove a clutched vehicle so I should probably get used to it before I bother with any mods :hehe: I just cant get over how well it drives (like its on rails!)

I definitely need to get used to the cluting in and out cuz i keep spinning on my 1-2 shift

The celica has 62k miles on it and I bought a 3yr 36k mile bumper to bumper warantee on it. Even with that coverage, are there any suggestions of common issues to watch out for?

as far as the volvo build goes, it seems to be cursed. took 3 months to get the block back from the machine shop, for what was supposed to be a 7day turn around job (aside from just ignoring the project, they some how managed to drill a hole in one of my bores and had to sleeve it :squint: ). on top of this, when i went to do assembly i was missing 4 mail cap bolts, and now that im ready to do piston insertion there seems to be a casting error in the oil ring groove of one piston  .

sigh...i guess it gives me more time to gasket match my intake and exhaust ports, and have my wiring done for the megasqirt set up so i can just drop the motor in. hehe, I get to find out how long the stock trans will last, but I'll be doing a ford t5 swap once I grenade the automatic thats in the car.

Oh yeh, and while I'm sure I can find this out with a bit of searching...I'll be taking the celica to the strip this friday, assuming I'm spot on with my shifts what times can i expect at the track>?

welcome, the volvo sounds awesome, I remember seeing the video of that guy who put a ls1 in his volvo wagon... the funny thing was it looked like a normal motor in there heh.

and dont do burnouts / autox in church parking lots!

Welcome man. Interesting build project! Not sure about the GT but I'm sure I've seen some low 14's posted by GT-S's.

heh, the guy with the TT LS1 in his wagon used to hang out alot on the volvo board I'm on. The car is definitely sick:)

I've got a V8 volvo as well...nothing near as sexy, just a chevy 305 from a camaro RS. still fun...yet another project to work on "some day" :hehe:

I have very few pics (none really) of the volvo right now, but as soonn as i find the charger for my camera I'll take a couple of the 3 cars. The project volvo still hasn't been washed since burning man so it looks like someone dumped 100gallons of beige paint over it :bigthumbu

Looks like a fun project :)

welcome to the site! Looks like some nice projects, I happen to have 3 and I love it haha out of all 3 of mine though, my celica is the quickest/fastest one I have and probably the funnest though theres not much to it currently. I'll bet that volvo is gonna be a blast to drive when the motor is finished and installed

probably 16's. very nice car though! the volvo project looks interesting as well.

from the butt dyno, compared to how my wagon felt at the track in stock form I would have guessed 15.9, but based on hp and weight I guess I should be happy with a 16.3-4 eh?

well whatever, so long as I dont get shown up too bad by my friend's stock 91' 745 turbo it's all good :bigthumbu

lol, they're all joking that they could push his volvo down the track faster than this celica will go :squint:

09-25-2007, 06:34 AM
They'd better be pushin' REALLY hard... :hehe:

Nice find by the way, and I'm also looking forward to the turbo-brick build :D

Nice find by the way

is it really? I dont know the first thing about these cars, other than that it has a manual and its front wheel drive...and that I cant keep the smile off my face while im driving it :bigthumbu

uhhh...how do i know when I need a new clutch btw, i've smoked mine up a few times in the last 2 days I've owned it :stupid:

also, since I havent really seen any N/A or nitrous performance threads relating to the 1zz under the hood, any suggestions on where to look for like staged mods and such? I'm really used to junkyard hunting for my parts and this whole after market support is exciting and confusing at the same time :hehe:

edit// eh...found the 7th gen general discussion board. I assume there are no (tested at least) performance things to do to this car other than what is there?
