View Full Version : Is the U.S. Sixth Gen Celica a Five Seater?

09-19-2007, 09:03 PM
Saw this picture of a JDM 6th gen, and something caught my eye as strange. Maybe this is because I have next to no exposure to sixth gens in the US, but...

It looks to me like the JDM version has a flattened seat cushion over the drive shaft to make a third seat in the back, and then they added an old-school pull-strap-to-tighten lap belt. :sneak:

Is the US version a five seater too? And if I am totally wrong, is that lap belt only for a pedestal baby car seat or something? :ohyeah:

PS. Please do not move this to 6th gen forum. There is no activity there, thus no visibility.

/Noob question of the year.

99.99% sure all US versions are 4 seaters with very defined separation in the back seat.

Mine is insured as a 5 seater, and has 3 rear belts.

Not sure it's ever had 3 in the back, but it would be legal.

So if E's ST205 is a JDM import and not Euro-spec, we can say it was a JDM only thing. The one picture I posted was a JDM model imported to th UK.

Edit: Also, thanks for all the pictures Gary.

I really want a 98-99 Celica GT in black on black with the 205 front end conversion as a daily driver. Anyone want to trade a mint garage queen black/black (leather) GT for a modded 92 Alltrac? ;)
