Whats wrong with paintin the tranny? I'm spraying mine with some high heat stuff once I've got it rebuilt.

Why not?

I have painted many engines in my life. Most of the time I don't bother painting aluminum cause it will just flake off.

I don't see anything wrond with painting an engine.

me either. mine in the GTS is painted a lovely shade of oil. I don't think I have to ever worry about it flaking off.

i never said not to paint the motor, the motor isnt aluminum go right ahead. i said its not a good idea to paint the head or the tranny. the head is aluminum and pretty positive the casing to the tranny is too. it'll look like shit when it starts to flake.

Word of advice, get a dremel or sand paper,(light paper) sand your surfaces before painting aluminum. My friend has done it that way and no flaking so far. They do sell paint for aluminum.

The problem with painting aluminum is the temps. The motor heats and cools too fast for the paint to keep up. Or something like that.

I know that they have paints which are designed to be on aluminum. That might make a difference.

It doesn't hurt anything to paint it. Personally I like the look of clean, bare aluminum.
