GM had its H2. Ford had the Excursion, a Mount Rushmore-sized SUV based on the company's Super Duty truck platform. Dubbed the Ford "Valdez" by the Sierra Club

interesting list, cause some cars seem nice to me, the prowler, the 2002 bmw 7 series and jaguar x-type, other then that few cars or surely belong on the list. even ferrari and lambo could that miss this list.

The reasons for the cars on the list were decently founded. If you read every article on the cars it was detailed as to why they were on there.

test drove a jag x-type. what a heap. it was like driving a very used hyundai sonata, only heavier with allwheel drive. and it smelled like an old lady.

HEY I like the plymouth prowler! Though they werent a huge draw with the plublic...I still want one. But I dont see how he can put down the model t, I mean that was jsut the tip of the iceburg, its not like they have huge factories with precision robots assembling those cars...to us today it would be junk, but back then it was affordable and got people around easier, who complained? Oh and I've never been a fan of the SSR, but he made a mistake in his statement, ratrods were cars that you just threw a bunch of pieces together to make something fast, a hotrod is basically restoring an old body and dropping a large motor in it

except the Chevette, all he talked about with that one is him and his girlfriend goin cross country 3 times...still...it's obvious why that car made the list

Also, a lot of times he's picking cars based on obscure reasons, like saying that the explorer is the mother of all giant SUV's today? This doesnt mean the vehicle is bad...it just started something although there had been SUV's before it. And picking the BMW based on I-drive? Sure the system may suck, but apparently the overall car is great...I dont get how this makes sense to call it one of the worse cars out there, it sounds like a bunch of nitpicking

The Prowler looked cool (to some people), but it's performance didn't live up to the looks. Not only did it have poor performance, but it was also useless as a form of everyday transportation. So it doesn't do anything except look cool.

The Model T was a crap car, even compared to other cars at the time, it's like comparing a base Kia Rio to an Infiniti M45.

As far as his complaints about the Explorer, it's obvious he isn't a fan of the SUV craze, and, as the vehicle that really made the SUV America's common form of transportation, it deserves some credit our current situation.

Yes I know the prowler wasnt a very versitile car, but neither is a ferrari and they werent $300g+ lol it's more of a show piece, but the model t was affordable, of course it was the first mass produced car, everything else most people couldnt afford so thats kind of apples and oranges. And even if the making of the explorer lead people in a craze doesnt mean its a bad car, so honestly his complaint is stupid, its not the top cars that lead to the worst disasters, its worst cars of all time

I see your points, this is just one guy's opinions. Some of his biases and his opinions of what makes a good car are obviously going to show through, just like it would for all of us. But I can also see and understand his reasoning, too, I dislike the SSR too. :)

LOL....great link - incredibly, I haven't owned any car specifically named on the list ;) although I DID at one point own a Buick Skyhawk (rebadged Cavalier, and same crappy platform as the pos Caddy Cimmaron, which did make the list..... I distinctly remember some dolt from GM at that time proudly proclaiming that the Cimmaron was going to be a "BMW beater" .... laughable, at the very least). I found it to be an entertaining list, indeed !!!

haha yeah, but for a lot of his choices I can see why they were up there. I loved readin the camaro duke one, that one was funny "as school buses rush by you in a yellow blur." For most of his vehicles he had a right to pick them, but at times it felt like he just wanted to fill up the list

The prowler was cheaply put together with the leftover parts Jeep had. It looks like a over-priced plastic bathtub. Hey! and i like the DMC Deloreans...:(

celicaGT90_05
09-09-2007, 11:55 PM
I love the Deloreans too, but what I heard was they were really complex and no mechanic really knew how to fix them when they had issues, which is why they arent around today when Jimmy Carter backed out of the project since it was disgracing his name

True, I also hate parking next to them. I'm afraid their fucking monster truck doors gonna ram and mess up my new paint. Least I save more on gas.

I dont hate SUV's so much as I hate that people are stupid with them. If you want an SUV, a smaller one is the way to go for typical people, like my mom has a CR-V which is a small car-like SUV and the main reason why she wanted one is because we live on a hill and during winter it can be a pain to get up, so she wanted the 4WD to make it easier, but she doesnt act like the 4WD is gonna get her through dangerous situations while all other 2WD's have to stop

heh, we got a suburban (would be a truck but we need the room) to pull our boat. we were using a freakin 1991 aerostar (I hope thats on the list). the aerostar was tossed about the road by the boat, had no power, a cheap interior, and has been nothing but a $500 hole to toss money into to keep it running. we bought it in shit condition a few years ago for $1100 (was a good deal) now mint condition ones are going for $500...

It angers me when I see a little lady by herself driving an excursion, suburban, etc.

It wasn't nice how he labeled the article "50 worst cars of all time" and then gave some fairly arbitrarily assessments of why he chose them.

For instance, the DeLorean. Who cares if the CEO was arrested for trafficking blow? Does that make it a BAD CAR? He didn't even mention that the stainless steel skin was rust-proof.

There are many cars that he left out that had even worse safety records, broke down more often, and were driven by more people.

Why wasn't the Ford Probe on the list? What about a Kia? Daewoo? Hyundai? Why aren't more PONTIACS on that damn list?

The Maserati Biturbo is irrelevant.

But I totally agree with his assessment of SUVs. They started us on a horrible path of reckless opulence and a wanton disregard for economic and social responsibility.

I bet we wouldn't have $3 gas if there weren't all these scatter-brained soccer moms carting around their Ritalin-baked spawns in land yachts.

And safer my ass. Yeah, they'll keep you real safe when you're bashing into other cars because you're a shitty driver and need 5 tons of steel to support your unsafe driving habits.

They'll keep you real safe and secure, until the fucker rolls and sends you tumbling out of the widow. I'm sure a 15 pound skull can support 5 tons of metal real nice.

That's a pretty subjective list with fairly subjective remarks. We could get 50 people on here to make that list and get 50 different lists.

1971 Pinto. I owned 6 Pintos over the years. Mine worked fine and non exploded, even in a rear end collision. None were 1971. I must have been lucky... :squint:

Chevette? Maybe. Since he knew what a Pinto was the dumbass forgot to put the Vega. A much better choice for a worst list. :duh:

Gremlin/Pacer. The Gremlin was a good name for it. A few of my friends owned them. They were always haunted with weird problems... And they just sucked.

Bricklin Safety Vehicle. OMG! I had forgotten all about that abomination. I saw them when brand new sitting in the AMC dealer lot. Conceptually they were onto something with the improved safety. Just didn't come out right and there was no support for it.

Corvair. That car is not that bad. Ralph Nader should burn in hell. He was an idiot. :slap:

Triumph TR7. I saw one just last week on the back of some guys property with a bunch of other junk cars. Asked him if he was going to restore it. Nope, it's gonna sit there until it completely rots! Apparently he had a very bad personal experience owning that car...

Worst car I ever owned. 1965 Buick Special. That was the most finicky damn car I have ever owned. It was always going to be a surprise what happened every time you turned the ignition key...

celicaGT90_05
09-16-2007, 01:33 AM
Pinto's were famous for igniting in rear end collisions though, so he was right about that, and the chevette is also know as the "shit-vette" lol
