View Full Version : Free Nissan Z31...should I do it?!

My aunt is willing to give me her 86 Nissan 300zx turbo, or else it goes to charity. This thing is ghetto as hell as far as asthetics (cracked dash, basically no seats because they are ripped to shreds, t-tops leak, smoke stained interior (red), window cracks, no guages work, paint looks like ass and someone stole the hood) Mechanically is very sound, only 85k miles, always maintained fairly well.
1.Should I take it?
2. Does anyone have any experience with one of these?
3. Not really into drifting, besides watching, but would it be a good drift car?
4. Just looking for some opinions.

Here are pics of a similar looking one, in awesome condition.

They're fun cars that get great looks, I just wouldn't depend on it as your DD until its proven itself to you. Mine's failed that test thus far, regardless of how fun of a car it was/is.

Depends on what you're looking to get out of the car. If you have the money to spend on a project car I don't see a reason not to go for it. First I would check out z31.com and see what kind of potential it has.

I would take it simply for the fact that it's free. Then if you wanted to try to fix it up, do it, if not sell it for some cash to fix up your celi a little.

I'm taking it...please don't hurt me! :p

I think it'll be a fun project to restore it a bit, If I fixed everything I think I could sell it for $2,000 easy :D Esp because of the low miles...you just don't find that kind of thing. w00t!

Those dont make good drifters. Very heavy. They handle like a stock mustang. Okay for a donut or burnout, but not drifting. My friend had one and tried... didnt look to well.

damn right you better take it. when you here free you better say where? unless its a free ass whipping.lol. but if you have space for it why not, start a little project car, good base with it running well at 85k, you can always sell it later. let us know how it works out.

Fix it and sell it. Save the profit or use it to buy something you NEED.

Definatly go for it. Fix it to sell it or to keep it. Thats your biggest decision right now.

This is going up for auction on the 11th in Spokane. You could probably get it for a few hundred dollars. Might be some usable parts.

Little update: I finally got a chance to drive it a little yesterday. WoW! This is a great running car. A really good amount of power, and rwd is pretty kick ass...coming around corners is fun. :D I never was a big fan of the z's until now... :woot2: :woot:
