so, my car has had maybe 4 months on the new clutch. i had never raced it, i launched it once in wet weather (two months ago) and i babied the crap out of it. well, obviously my car hasn't been running because there was some problem. yesterday i pulled off the tranny and low and behold, my throwout bearing was fine. however, the clutch disk tore out one of the springs. this was a spec stage 2 with around 3-4k miles.

(crappy pic, i know)

i know i will never buy another spec clutch. right now i've got an oem disk on the way from 1st toyota. luckly spec makes their pressure plates out of oem plates which have been upgraded, so im going to keep the spec pressure plate.

btw, for those who don't know, this isn't the first time that this has happened. ive seen other threads, like the one that 93celicaconvertable made about his exploding.

It seems like spec is ethier hit or miss... I loved mine in my swapped 6th gen... but yah that spring sucks!

Geez I've never seen an unabused clitch go that fast. How much did that run you? If it was less than 3 months ago you should still have atleast a parts worrenty on it?

i blew my spec clutch in less then 1000 miles daily driving. stage 2 as well.

broke all the springs and separated the inner hub from the outer clutch plate, all the rivets broke. it sucked.

Put 1 more on the board for faulty SPEC clutches. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.. I will NEVER touch a SPEC clutch. I've seen this same problem countless times on newcelica.org, here, and alltrac.net.

the rivets also seem loose too, but none are broke.

fixed your spelling :D

i doubt that they will warranty it. i maybe has been 3-4 months, but they will want receipts, which i don't have any since i bought the clutch off another board member (unopened and untouched) and had it installed my a friend of mine who is a Subaru master tech for cash under the table.

hmm, I've not even heard of SPEC, guess I know now to stay away from it haha I'd prefer to find a centreforce or clutch masters clutch anyway

seen them go bad on the F-bodies, seen pictures of 2 C5Z06s that got totaled cause the spec clutch blew up and destroyed the bellhousing, firewall and almost killed both drivers.

I will never buy a spec clutch.

i was gonna get a spec stage 3+ but after a little research on alltrac.net i decided not to and ended up with a southbend feramic fullface with the hd preasure plate. btw exedy makes their clutch parts at southbend.

Join the club.

My Spec stage II blew out a spring with 8k on it.
I've had the exact same problem with Clutch Masters too, though it lasted longer.

I used a Spec Stage II for 50k miles, no problems. (Daily driven, drag racing)

Now on a unsprung Stage IV, same old spec II pressure plate, no problems.
