Ok, this is one of those "I've always been courious" kinda questions. Here it is: Can a 2JZGTE Supra engine physically fit in a 90 Celica GT Coupe? I know the engine and tranny are set up for rear wheel drive, but if money was no object, could this physically be done? My son's friend claims he did it in his Celica, and recently got a $1000 speeding ticket out here in CA, and lost his license for 6 months for doing 237 mph to prove it. My thoughts are I'd have to see it to believe it. Give me your thoughts.

Thanks

first off welcome, wow are you serious, just to make it easy no no no and no. come on a kid doing 237mph and only lost his liscense for 6 months, he would do jail time. come on man you should never asked that. this is going to be a great thread.

The guy that got the ticket wasn't a kid. He was an adult. My son worked with him at this pizza shop out here. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

just like you said you have to see it to believe it.

Sure.

Utter BS. Ask to see what rear diff he was using (with 215/40/17 tires, he'd need a 2.64 rear end), see what tires he was using (most, like 98%, would just rip apart at those speeds), and see how he was able to make a car that's keenly made for lift stay on the ground at those speeds.

And BTW, Welcome :bigthumbu

the mclaren f1s top speed is just over 230mph, and thats with a BMW v12 pushing out 630hp. 237mph in a celica is total BS. even with a 2jz swap. it wouldn't handle it and he would be in jail most likely.

What they said.
If he did 237 mph on CA highways and got caught, it probably made the news by now.

be easier to start out with an alltrac. Even then you would have to push back the firewall/cut a hole in the firewall and have to do 5 plug tune ups for the rest of its life unless you really wanted to drop the motor every time to change the plugs heh.

But yes it would be possible but its too much money and time to be driving a death trap... and it would be so hard with nickle and diming it plus the cost of all the parts to get it rolling + starting out with an alltrac..

lol ring..... ring...ring..... thats my bull call on the pizza maker!....But i had the same idea for a 4thy gen vert......was just gonna slap a celica body on a supra...cheating...so what, anyways it was unrealistic!

OMFG....... I CANT BELIEVE U BELIEVE THAT..... the fastest production car in the world right now ... the bughatti veyron..... has a w 16 engine.... and 4 turbo chargers..... and its top speed is the fastest in the world right now... and it can do 253 mph.... no supra can get close to 236 mph...... no way in hell. if there is one that can.... then it would be a super car....

For the record, I told my son BS when he told me the story too. My son said he saw the car with his own eyes, but has no concept of what one engine looks like from another, and for that matter he never looked under the hood. Soon as he said he had a twin turbo Supra engine in it, I knew it was time to take it to the board, cause that didn't sound right. I don't claim to even get close to knowing everything about cars, but I do have common sense. Just doing minor repairs on my car made me question the space issue in the engine compartment. I'm sure if I go to his job and push the issue, the story would change dramatically.

well if it were true it would be all over the interweb that a celica actually goes fast lol.

Ok, what is the fastest anyone has heard of a street 5th Gen Celica going? I know I've gotten my stock '90 GT up to 115 mph. Probably would have hit 118-120 mph, but I ran out of road. Can these things get anywhere close to the 200 mph mark?

If they can put an ls1 into a civic, you can put a 2jz in a celica. If you knew how to fabricate, it really wouldn't be the expensive. cost of drivetrain, some sheet metal, and a bunch of other parts.

It's very possible. 237 is very impossible.

If you watched the video of top gear trying to get the espirit to 200 you'd see why. Them cars are more aerodynamic and the car had over 550+ hp.

no, nowhere near. a swaped 5th gen could maybe get 150ish with the turbo mr2 tranny. but nothing close to 200.

I let my son look at all of your posts, and he now see's the light. He said he should have looked under the hood, and see's how crazy it sounds. Thanks guys!!

lol a celica at 237mph would be uncontrolable you would lose control wreck and killyourself..

yes that guy put a ls1 into a civic which was awesome and all but keep in mine where the transmission is on the car....

Another thing did you see that thing its a friggen death trap and a half.

geebes

To be going that fast it would be some very customized transmition gearing, the engine would be at like 20,000 rpms.:hehe:

237MPH on CA highway. 2jz into a celica? HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO! The 2jz under the Supra's hood is already fairly tight as is, compare how big the Supra's engine bay is to the Celica's. Thats HARD to believe without 10,230,999,XXX dollars that you can actually fit a 2JZ I6 TT into our engine bays. And even if you did so......... I hope that you slap on some 305/50/17 on that thing or else you're gonna go flying off bridges.

oh man, i remember a looooong time ago, there's a dude who doesn't post here any more (I don't think), but he posted a vid of his badass alltrac doing 120 to 160. Needle covered the distance faster than mine does 0-60. I'm sure if he felt inclined to, he could gear his car to easily exceed 200mph.

I THINK I still have the video, but I'm having a hell of a time finding it.
