Scion...T.oyota C.elica? Could that be what the TC stands for? The world may never know.

BTW, I test drove one the other day, it is the new celica (everything from the interior, and even the engine feels like a newer slightly improved 5sfe). I like them, but they should have given it the toyota celica name.

It's alot like it in some ways.
2.4L FE engine.
(too bad they didn't make a G head design for it....)

But a totally different family and design.

Aluminum block
Timing chain
VVTi
True DOHC
Inline 4 instead of slant 4

The bearing clearances are measured in HUNDRED thousandths of an inch.
That's .00001"

Extremely. The engine in those is WAY better than any 5sfe, and to be honest, if it were cost effective to put that engine in my celica vs. the 3sgte, i would.

People are breaking 11s on unopened motors on these things. Plus, figure it this way, you may not even need turbo.

tCs with good drivers will hit low 15s, and they're significantly heavier than 5th or 6th gens. Bolt ons and you have a nice Honda-killer. :)

If i had to buy a current production car, the Tc would be up there on the top of the list.

and there actually fast cars with an unopened motor with a turbo.

turd Coupe ?? ;) ... heh .... imho, they look "ok," but not all that impressive, for a new car - I think every Celica gone before looks better/more interesting than the TC.... it's pretty bland, me thinkst. I'd rather have an xA, quite truthfully

I hate the Scion name, its just stupid.

Blitz makes an insanely expensive supercharger for the TC. I saw the demo of it at SEMA last year. Not bad for the 3k price tag. IIRC I believe toyota has a OEM supercharger unit available from TRD for the TC it looks like the Rippmods SC.

Nah, it's still a FE head.
To really make power you need FI.
The only advantage over the 5SFE is that it's true DOHC, so you can really mess with valve timing.

Well, of course, turbo is always better. ;) But what i was saying, is that in a lighter chassis such as a 5th gen, with bolt ons, i wouldn't doubt that they would be fairly close to the quarter mile times that i see from most of the 3sgte swaps on this site. :)

Of course, probably for higher price, but it'll become interesting when the motor gets older and more easily attainable.

And of course, the other advantages that it has over a 5sfe is displacement, the fact that there is aftermarket for it, and it actually reacts WELL to boost past 8psi in a positive way, rather than rewarding you with blowing up. :P

I don't see boosted 5sfes even breaking into the 12s.

dont the tcs have electronically controlled throttles? thats mega-gay. the Si's do i know for a fact, and it feels like you're playing a video game and not driving a car, which i hate. i'd rather feel the car drive than just push buttons and have it go. just my opinion. they do look pretty cool with some work into them. as for the xa and the xb.... meh. just a trendy high mpg car-ish type thing. anyone ever sat in an xB? they feel like a bus.

my gf has one, i like it a lot. it could use a little more pep but i cant touch it till the warnnty runs out. i did shorten the shift and she got 3% tint and i added a removeable 12" ED flatcone sub to the trunk. the throtle is kinda wierd, takes some getting use too. she is gonna autocross it in a couple weeks so i will get to see how it handles in a tight situation.

Toyota makes a supercharger for the tc's, don't they?

Melchior

Yep, warranty and all (if it's dealer installed) SCC did a project installment on it, made over 200 at the wheels IIRC.
