Hmm, Mid Engine and AWD.

I think it is ugly. It should be called an MR-2 over Celica though. It doesn't look right.

this is the type of stuff that turns me off. They should take the styling queses on the 5th gen and put it back into the new gen celicas.

'nah...I'm personally glad that automakers have gotten away from the "organic" or "ameoba" styling that was popular in the early 90s...bring back the proportions and RWD of the 1st and 2nd gen coupes. They were sexy.

I thought these were vaporware Supra concepts.

Yeah one kid showed me pics of what they have in development, and honestly it's aweful, toyota is making some hideous designs. What I think the problem is is that car companies are tryin to make cars look futuristic and just putting way to much effort in to making ugly ass cars, any theres not many who really like it.

yea your right. A rwd celica would be perfered if they bring it back. 7th gen celicas should of been rwd.

I can't take credit for being the first person to make this observation, but:

Oh i doubt they will bring back the MR2, Supra, or Celica back anytime soon honestly. There all about the ecnomy cars and the fact that since i was 10, i have been hearing they were releasing a new Supra in 2006. It's now 07' and im hearing false dates again.:squint:

And the fact that toyota said they were not very popular cars in North America and didnt sell well doesnt help the cause either.

that is the ugliest concept i have ever seen. that futuristic pod type airplane looking cabin is disgusting and just nasty looking. i hate futuristic looking cars, whats wrong with plain and simple? you can always modify it to look the way you want easier that way..

I'm with cav. I'll believe it when I see it actually happen. A new celica, supra, and MR2 would be nice though. Nice little boosted vvtli w/hybrid synergy drive could make it fast and economical, but probably out of everybodies price range. The futuristic concept is crap though, especially when more and more car companies are producing body styles that are throwbacks to their roots, let alone selling like mad *cough cough mustang! cough cough*

A big part of the reason the Mustang sold so well was because it had no competitors. Now that a new Camaro and Challenger are going into production (both featuring 1st gen styling cues) the segment will be under a lot more stress. There are only so many buyers who can afford 30+ grand on a two-door retro cruiser (remember the latest Thunderbird, anyone?).

Rather than taking the styling from the past, I say you should take the spirit and apply modern style (350Z). But, I to will believe it when it happens.

Hahaha, I just showed that to my old lady. Didn't tell her what it was and she was like "What the fuck is that? That's gay!"

If they made a cool celica, supra, etc. again, I would buy it. For example if they made a new alltrac celica, that didn't look futuristic, took styling cues from 5th/6th gen GT4's I would definately buy it...(and if I had the money).

Cars are becoming too bulky looking for me.

Oh jeez, those things sold like shit, probably one of the ugliest cars and worst selling car. That must have hurt Ford when they sold horribly. oddly enough though, there are a few people that have them in here in springfield, i've seen 3 or 4 in the past month or so.

IMO the celica concept is incredibly ugly however the Supra concept doesn't look all that bad. If they toned down on the whole futuristic theme it'd be a whole lot better.

i thought they stopped importing of the 7th gen, but the gen wasn't dead yet, ala the Nissan z32 that existed until 99 in japan. and it only took a 3 year break before Nissan brought the Z car back. Either way, both concepts aren't appealing. Its more reminiscent of the 80's. I'm an 80' kid and all but not a fan of most of the cars. I liek the 90's styling and more and more these cars are getting hideously boxy again.

i doubt they will ever launch something like that, its just a concept car. all the concept cars from other companys are the same...... goofey looking

I'd like to see a RWD cheap car from Toyota, maybe based on a next-gen Celica?

The reason the Mustang had no competitors was because it beat them all out of the market. Of course I would give the competitors some credit for the Mustang's success because they all made stupid decisions. The camaro and firebird missed the boat by styling choices, and making it so you had to pull the engine out the bottom. That market wanted to personalize and modify their cars, the Mustang (and aftermarket companies) made that easy while the competitors did not.

That being said some of the new retro design muscle cars seem to be headed in a good direction. In the grand scheme Toyota seems to be reading it's market fairly well. As much as we like the sports cars, they never sold anywhere close to the same numbers as the Corolla, Camry, etc.

Those are fugly designs and I'll believe the rumors when I see a new Celica/MR2/Supra on the local dealership lot.

In one of the recent car magazines I bought (not one of the ricer mags, a more reputable one) that was covering the 08 STi and Evo they also mentioned a possible Toyota sports car. Looked nothing like either of those, was a small yellow car more reminisent of the RX8.

Those are all concepts including the Lexus Supercar. Toyota is not making any more sports cars anytime soon.

Think about it, they dropped the MR-S, dropped the Celica... and hey, what do you know. They become the worldwide leading auto manufacturer the VERY NEXT YEAR. They will eventually start making sporty sleek designed cars like the Scion TC... but they will also be slow like the Scion TC.

What he said. It was just a concept art picture. I thought it looked quite nice though. Rumor has it they're looking at a price range of around 25,000.

the carbon fiber wheels on that FT-HS concept was awesome to see in person at the NY Auto Show, i must say... before someone else points it out, yes, the koenigsegg already has magnesium over carbon fiber wheels-- that's insane, i want!

Well said! Ford won hands down because it was the only product in that group. However they also won because that has to be one of the best retro designs I have yet to see out there. People just ate it up.

If Toyota really has a large following of Celica fans then something that still brings back memories of the early gen Celicas is important. Not some completely new design that looks nothing like any Celica ever built. They might as well badge it as a new car and phase out Celica. Which I think would be a bad idea.

That car pictured here is fugly. I'd take the slippers too!
