View Full Version : Autocrossing in Wisconsin in February

There is a wonderful Polish car club in Chicago called Autoklub Polski. They host autocross events year round, including winter. No matter what the weather is, the races are always on. Today they hosted another autocross at the Lake Geneva Raceway in Wisconsin. The track officials told them that the snow has now melted on the track, and the conditions might be slightly wet.

We all arrived there to find about 6-8 inches of snow and slush on the oval track. The organizers quickly redesigned the course to a rally-style course simlar to those found at ice autocross events, and moved everything over to the parking lot. Everyone staged at the oval and raced in the lot. It was a blast  I love die-hard clubs like this.

I placed 5th overall in the Miata (I think it was 5th, not 100% sure) out of 30 or so drivers. That's not bad, considering the vast majority of cars there were AWD (WRX, Evo VIII, STI, etc).

Here is what the course looked like after they laid it out:

Roman, you crack me up. Did you drive with the heat on? LOL this is not an event for the GTS. :)

The heat in my car is busted :) I messed up the heater core when I took the engine out the first time, so I routed the coolant so that it bypasses the heater core. Either way, a race with the top up is not a race :)

Here is a video my buddy (who was co-driving my car) put together: http://www.beatracing.com/roy/Polox.wmv
