Okay guys. On my SC300, the previous owner put some ghetto 17" rims on the car that look okay. I'd like to paint the middle black or charcoal, and leave the lip chrome.

Anyone have any ideas on how best to do this?

Also, if any of you guys can do black inside with chrome lip with the attached picture, I'd appreciate it. My Photo Shop isn't working right now, so I can't use it.

:)

Best way to do it is just to get some wheel paint, and a lot of masking tape. Make sure you scuff and clean what you're painting real well.

Although in my opinion..... i'd just save up for some new wheels. Those are gross.

Throw some Ds on it!!

These would be amazing looking on that car. And they're super-tyte 19s.

There's all kinds of decently cheap 18s that look great on that thing, too. 17s are weaksauce, bigger is always better.

<EDIT>
Actually you can get those wheels in 18x8.5 in front, 18x9.5 in rear. Some nice fat meaty tires, 245/40-18 in front, 265/35-18 in rear.

DO EET.

x2 do eet! Those rims that are on that right now are haggard, like some "G" wanted to go with the 100 spoke rims but couldn't afford it, so he got the most homo chrome rims he could find.

If you got some new wheels, that would be the hotness!

Those rims don't look too bad. I'll admit, it will look way better with different rims though. He's giving me the OEM wheels too, but I hate those. I also can't afford new rims after buying the car. If I do anything, I was thinking 19" in back and 18" in the front, or 18" in back and 17" in the front. That's a long way off though. I'm more focused on getting the thing a little faster. Now that I have a car that's a solid platform, 300hp is so much more atainable.

I guess the question I should have asked was if there was anything special beyond normal painting preperation that should be done to chrome?

Not really. Just make sure you get ALL the chrome off. :)

Why not just sell them and put the money towards new rims? Just put the stockies back on until then.

Jesus QFT!!!

That looks liek a baller spent all his money on the car, then when he got to the rims he cheaped out. :hehe: I love the car, but please ditch those rims. Snag some nice rims like what ciento posted above.

I agree with this!! Don't waste the time and resale value of these bobo chromies.. put on the stockers and just run them, sell these bobo chrome rims and put your money to a set you really want!

I'm not spending two grand on rims and tires.

It will look nice with the black middles for now. Saving two grand would take two years for me.

Find a set thats 18X8 front and 18X9 in back with good tires for less than a grand...then we can talk...haha.

Something like this would be nice.

I don't know about the black on these though

But that's the style I want.

18x8 in front are $160 apiece.
18x9 in rear are $169 apiece.

So we're getting close.

throw the stock ones on untill you can afford some nice ones. those ones are super-gay and don't even flow with the car. dont go with something too open either, after all it is a lexus. the ones above this post are good, i'm not sure about the 5 spokes on that car.

I'm starting to like the rims on it now...haha

Afterall...they are Enkei.

Slider...you're my hero. How far are you from Park Forest, IL? Or River Forest? I lived in RF and bought the SC in Park Forest.

Lavy--nice chop. Any chance you can darken the rims to match the color of the car. After all, if I paint them, they will be as black as the car.

Glossy too.

Park Forest, I'm like an hour north of that. But River Forest is really close to me, I'm like 15 minutes north of River Forest. There's autocrosses held right in Maywood, that's like 5 minutes away from River Forest. Haven't made it out this year though since I'm waiting on polyurethane inserts for my motor mounts since the mounts are shot on my car.

I tried to make the wheels more glossy, but that's really difficult to do:
