View Full Version : Attn: Eveyone- Toyota Todd Ain't Too Hot..

Well, when I say that, I am not talking about how sexy he is, because we all know he is one fine looking, sexy stud. I mean Todd is not doing very well physically. The man had some back problems back (not a pun) in the day that kind of messed him up bad. He was able to recover after some pretty complicated procedures that would make most of us bite our pillows and want our Mommies; and we all have known a pillow biter or two in our day, so you know where I am coming from there. ;) Todd was able to rise back to his former self, juggling his many careers including runway model, actor, nuclear physicist, male escort, clubbing baby seals, and in his spare time, something to do with selling Toyota parts on the side.

Unfortunately, Mr. Todd Longenbongenfragbaumer (I think it's dutch or something) has had his old affliction rear its ugly head again. He had to go back in a have what is basically a mass removed from around his spine. It is the same mass that has grown back (again no pun intended). It was a pretty involved surgical procedure that required a lot of cutting, scraping, macrame, and a little needle point too. They got most it, but he said there may be an additional procedure that involves laser beams and a Wookie to get rid of some of the stuff they couldn't get too.

Anyway, the boy was pretty cut up and has a lot of healing time ahead of him. I talked to him a couple days ago, and he was as friendly as ever, but I could tell he is pretty down about this. The location of the mass is in a critical location that can have some serious ramifications if it is not taken care of completely. I can understand why he sounded a little down. He is a young dude with a lovely wife and cool kid. He has neat toys and a parts surplus that could carry a third world country through a civil war. Basically, imagine everything you ever wanted in your car and your garage and your family, and that is pretty much what Todd has to wake up to everyday. The guy has a lot to live for, and when he is down, I get worried.

Fast forward to today, apparently there has been some complications from Todd's surgery, and the boy sprung a leak. Don't worry, it is not incontinence. Todd's an old fart, but he has at least three years before he starts squirting when he sneezes. **Stock Tip** Put in an order with your broker to buy 1000 shares of Kimberly-Clark stock in 2 years, 11 months. They are the maker of Depend undergarments. If you have a bad memory, see if you can exercise stock options or futures right now instead Where was I... Oh yeah...

In all seriousness, Todd has had complications and is leaking spinal fluid from his incision. This is nothing to mess around with. It is quite serious actually. When spines leak fluid out, it also means that nasty things can get in. It is something that needs to be taken right away, so before he got in some good healing time, he has to go back under the knife tomorrow. He is really down about this, and his wife just called me to ask that I put up a status for him and to get you guys to send your thoughts and prayers his way. He needs some serious cheering up too, because he has a long road ahead of him filled with more procedures and recovery time and lots of time doing nothing but laying flat and still; and that is enough to drive anybody crazy. The key is to get this leak taken care of first though.

Todd has single-handedly helped to repair many of our leaks from behind his parts counter -aside from that one time when we went to Tijuana together where I think he contributed to me getting a leak- and it is time that we send a little positive energy and karma back his way to help him with his leak. This is a time when genuine Toyota parts are not going to fix the problem. Though, I did tell him that the rear main seal from a 3sgte gasket kit may work, but he wasn't too excited about trying it.

Seriously though, Robin asked that I put together something humorous to help him get through this, but it is kind of hard to do it with a dry eye. Todd is one of the nicest guys I have ever had the honor of knowing, and it is a really shitty thing that something like this had to happen to a person like him. Todd has helped countless people and donated tons of time to helping us realize our goals. He has saved many of you a lot of money and has been doing so selflessly for as long as I have known him. He brought insane discounts to us long before any of these recent Toyota parts sites did. But see, the thing is that a parts connection is just a small perk when you know Todd. There is so much more than that, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have seen his name mentioned on a website almost a decade ago, because if it wasn't for what he does, I never would have had the honor of calling him my friend.

Enough of that. This thread is for you to post your well wishes and thoughts for Todd when he needs them most. Be there for him like he has always been there for our community. Give him words of encouragement, thanks for what he has done for all of us, happy thoughts, and prayers. He needs us for once, and I hope we don't let him down. So please post away.

Also, I have his address. Write a letter or stop off and get a card and a stamp for this guy to tell him he is hot, or to thank him, or to tell him that you are thinking of him during this trying time, or tell him how cool he is and you like the way he does that one thing with the thing. Please take ten minutes extra to drop a note to him or mail him next month's issue of Turbo and Tittays. Lets get his pleasure palace filled with cards and notes that will put him in the frame of mind he needs to get through this with flying colors:

Todd "Ow My Aching Back" Longenbaugh
3702 Aboite Lake Dr.
Fort Wayne, IN 46804

Also, I would like to get him something cool as a get well gift as a small token to return the hundreds of favors he has done for me and a lot of you reading this. If you would like to donate, please send me a PayPal at playfortoday[at]comcast[dot]net, and put Todd's name in the subject line and include any ideas you might have for things to get this guy. He has a toyota shrine of matchbox cars, posters, and models that I am sure we can add something extra special and cool too.

So anyway, thanks to everyone for your time reading this, and lets do and say everything we can to help this guy keep his chin up and get well as quick as possible. We all know that a positive mind brings positive results, and he needs A LOT of Positive right now.

Todd, my brother from a different mother, I love you man. My heart goes out to you and yours during this tough time. Things are sketchy right now and can go either way, but I am gunning for you, man. Keep your head up, and get well soon. We have many AWD burnouts ahead of us. :bigthumbu

PS. In case you have a problem visualizing what is wrong with Todd's back, I asked his wife for permission to post a copy of his X-RAY. She said, "yes." So if you are easily grossed out, look away now. Here goes:

My best friend (apart from my wife) was the best mechanic I know but can no longer bend enough to work on a car at all, and can't even own a sports car right now because he can't drive one due to spinal and some other issues from old injuries and can't wait for when he is finally recovered and able to do what I know he loves. It kills me, so I know just where you are coming from, Play. I don't know Todd really.. at all, but I'll be pulling for him. I really hope everything goes well and recovery is swift so he can get back into the swing of things.

Good luck, Todd! :)

How come bad crap always happens to people who are good at fixing cars? As though there is not few enough toyota enthusiasts as it is, you have to go and get carved up by some quack. Tell the doctors to put away the scotch long enough to stitch you up. Smear some bondo in the hole, or get a good welder on the job.

Listen Todd: Anyone who can keep a 20+ year old sports car on the road with all its problems can certainly get healed of a simple fluid leak. I have faith that you will be laying under a car fixing other fluids in no time. This will simply end up being another story that you can share with people, look back and realize you got through it.

Although I scarcely know you, you are obviously well liked and a decent guy, except for the pillow biting. Seriously, who bites their pillow. Really. Real men suck their thumb when they get freaked out. The car guys soak it in oil first.

As another car guy who has spend my share of nights laying in a hospital bed, albeit mostly emergency ward, and due to my own lack of foresight: "Is that a car in my lane, or am I in the wrong lane..." I know slightly a tiny fraction of how you feel.

May God, whomever you conceive Him to be, have mercy on you, and bring you back to the land of burning rubber.

How come bad crap always happens to people who are good at fixing cars?

yeah really. I suck at fixing my car and I'm perfectly fine!

So Todd's leaking fluid? Would that be oil, transmission or power steering fluid? Because from what I'm told, Todd's passion for cars has made him into one! Power Steering fluid is a bitch to get out of your hair btw!

Wow. This has gotta suck. I know you have a long road of recovery ahead of you. Look on the bright side, you get slave service, good drugs and people like us to deal with until you're all healed.

I'm sending all my best your way for a speedy recovery. We can't have people like you down for long. The longer you are down, the more the idiots will prevail. Hurry up and get better!

my father is paralyzed from the waste down. he was wheel chair bound for 3.5 years. He was told he'd never shuffle his feet again let alone walk. Its almost 8 years later now, he has about 25 % feeling in his legs, but he can still walk, drive, climb laddrs etc. but most important, to a bystander he looks totally normal.

Hopefully my story can give you some inspiration to continue fighting, doctors are smart people, but they can't diagnose will power, and from what I've read, You definatly don't lack in that department.

Best of luck in the present and the future, I'm looking forward to hearing about your road to recovery.

I wish you the best of luck Todd and the best recovery...

My dad has titanium rods in his back. He's had a disk in his back for about 12 years. It's been getting worse and worse, and finally after years of doctors saying 'it's a minor disk' he went to a doctor that knew a thing or two (Boston graduate/chicago work experience)

The doctor told us to take an x-ray of my dad bending over (Forwards and backwards) for a change from the typical standing up or lying down x-rays.

That x-ray showed that his disk was not mild, and in fact was pretty severe, when he flexed his back one of his vertebrae would move forward/backwards by more than an inch, pinching the spinal cord (Causing pain) and risking SEVERING it completely.

After 12 years of pain killers and BS by stupid doctors, my finally went in for back surgery. The surgery required 3 weeks of hospitalization, a back brace, and 6 months of vacation time...

This was two years ago .. my dad is now much better, he is off the pain meds, his blood pressure is down because of it, his health is better, he got motivated to lose some weight, and he's happily retired and running his own factory which he started from scratch after he retired (which was some 6 months after his surgery).

It was pretty tough to decide to go into the surgery...and it was a pretty tough stretch for those few months after the surgery... But I'm glad he got it done, and I hope this gives you some inspiration to get well too.

I have an online friend who I met on the benz forums :) ... He also has a bad back from some old war injury ... he has the fastest 2.3liter SLK on the forums pushing 220rwhp (where most people are pushing 170-180). Sometimes he tells me in his emails that it gets hard for him to work on the car when his back is bugging him... but the car gives him something to do (since he can't work really) and it has giving him something to enjoy with his son and connect with him over...

I hope you get well soon man ... ... and back to boosting.

Like a lot of the other noobs around here I can't say I know you, but it sounds like you're a great guy. I guess I should say thanks myself, because it always brightens my day to hear about people like you who work to help others with little to no reward for yourself aside from the satisfaction of helping a fellow man. And that's not something we find too much of, so be proud of that man, sounds like you deserve every bit of support we can offer. Get well soon.

The world we live in is indeed a strange place. Sometimes it just does not appear to be "fair." We suffer while others romp around in their ungodliness...

... I've realized that this world is indeed unfair and downright cold, to a point of it being indistinguishable from the animal kingdom.

However, don't despair and blame God for this temporary affliction. Sometimes there's a lesson to be learned in all this. Other times, sufferings in our flesh enhances our character and builds our inner-strength.

God's realm is truly an upside-down kingdom and you can rest assured that your sufferings on earth are noted in heaven. It's not so much about the suffering as it is the attitude we adopt while going through the storm.

Finding peace amidst the storms in our lives is the key. Jesus embraced the cross he carried to calvary and refused the wine drink mixed with myrrh in order to experience the full effect of the pain and torture.

Never ever ever own the illness or affliction, call it a hindrance or a temporal thing but never say it's "MY back pain" or "MY headache" ... don't take ownership of anything that is not of God.

This realm we must live in, with all its issues, is an experience I would never trade or give away... we make all the difference in the world to each other through friendships and common bonds (Celicas, Toyota, etc).

It is highly unlikely that I will ever meet you, or that we will ever become friends to some degree beyond the forums world. However, I don't need to know you to pray for you. All I ask is that you let us know your progress to provide those of us praying with confirmation that God is answering our prayers for you.

"Dear Lord, I know not this man nor his family. It is unlikely that I will ever know him, but it doesn't mean I cannot pray for him in this moment of great pain. Father, as you pour compassion into my heart, for him, I repackage it and send it back to you in the form of a healing prayer for this man. I call forth the mighty power of your Holy Ghost to fill his heart with healing. I call the power of the cross into his spine for your son Jesus has walked the walk for us and bore all pain for us. The air we breathe came at a price and Jesus bore it for us all. So God, through the blood of the Lamb our Celica friend is cleansed of all impurities. Through the stripes of our mighty Lamb, he is healed on earth as it is in heaven. I stand in the gap between this man and you oh Lord, and I boldly call forth a healing rain like nothing he has ever experienced! May your hands be the guides for his team of doctors, may your words be spoken through these medical professionals. May the medication he must take be packed with your healing power. May the pain run its course and leave him through the the tips of his toes and finger. May his body be your dwelling place, oh God, and may you inhabit it in such a way that makes anything that is not of you be obligated to leave and unhabit. I declare complete healing of his spine and skeletal system because I know Lord that this affliction is not of you and it is not what you have planned for him. I pray these things in the might name of Jesus. Amen."

Now one other requirement is that as you read it... make THIS your own. Take ownership of this prayer and BELIEVE in its power.

I may be new and not know the person at hand yet, but I know thats gotta be a real pain (figuratively speaking) to go through. My back isn't in the best of shape and it's a lot to deal with, so I can only imagine what he has to go through. At any rate get well soon, hope it doesn't keep you down too much

I'm really sorry to hear about Todd's ill health and my thoughts as well as prayers are with him, his family and close friends. Just like many of the people on this forum I never met with Todd but I was able to benefit in a great way from his kindness and willingness to help any one in need. Of course, we're all petrol heads but it goes much further when you take the time to go to the ends of the earth to help in any given instance. That says a lot about the people here; Todd included ;) . Here's to the happy times ahead Todd and to getting past the not so good times at hand. Take care old friend and please know that we're all with you in your time of need. Just as you've been there for us time and time again.

Cheers!

Thanks J for posting this for Todd , It got a smile out of him this morning and He really needed it . Todd was P.O.d that he had to go back in and have this leak procedure done.Todd was doing well and it was a shock to him. I mean would any of us want to have a tumor cut out for the second time in your life and you go home finally have a BM life is going good and all of a sudden you cant stop the leak from your back. Wonder to yourself , can it be stopped, will I get an infection? I can't move for 72 hrs. will I get sick again , the pain was going away, why ? Why is it so different this time? will the radiation that I had last time have caused too much damage thatI won't heal. Well let me tell all of you Todd is a fighter and he will pull through , But he needs all of us to pull for him.Todd is the nicest Man any of us will ever meet! He will do anything to help his friends and I'm so very priviledged to have him as a friend. He went with me to get my KDX in Detroit , a 3.5 hr. drive one way frome Fort Wayne with this pain in his back and then a 5+ hr. trip to get another the next day with all the pain. he never complained. But he did go to the DR. the next week. (Ya Think)I urged him to go to see someone and he did but it confirmed his fear, ITS BACK!!! Robin and Todd need us so much with alot of stuff if you can help PLEASE HELP!!! Todd I Love you like your my brother please get well soon ! I'll do my part , I'm here for you and your family.

Wow. Great responses guys. Todd, if anything, I hope this helps give you the strength to pull through this quickly and with a light heart. I love you man.

Thanks for the great prayer too, mineralgrey. Not all of us are religious, some are, and some wish they were; but the positive energy from that prayer alone should help a lot no matter what everyone's beliefs are. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

As for anyone who kicks in to the fund, I will make a post to let everyone know what was done and we'll try to set up another icon that has been synonymous with the many times people have opened their hearts and wallets on this site. See that trophy icon by some members names? Those are people that help Luni and us with the personal expenses we incur running this site. How about the flashing check engine light? Those are folks that helped to buy Luni a new engine when he had a stoke of bad luck. It was done as a gift to him for all he has done for us. It was not solicited by him. And see that kitty icon? Those are people that did a similar thing for me when I was having a bad stroke of financial luck and had a clutch that disintegrated. Not only did they help me out, but 1sloceli flew out for a week and helped me to pull my motor to put in the new clutch paid for by members of this site.

You never really realize how lucky you are until friends and perfect strangers come together to help someone they may or may not ever even meet. That is the power of this site. That is what makes this place different than all the rest. We are family, and we are there when it counts. I can think of at least 20 other times when someone helped someone else here with free parts, loans, and donations when one of our family was down and out.

I am not sure what we will get Todd right now. Actually, with Todd having to be out of work so long, we may just hand over all the donations to help carry the weight of his household until he gets back on his feet again. Whether it is something fun or something serious, we will be here for Todd and his family.

Keep the messages coming guys! Break out your crayolas and make a pretty card for him or make it a hallmark moment. Let's just do everything we can to keep a smile on our brother's face.:)

Hi Brett , Thanks for your comment. Todd's is a cancerous mass. Todd is a strong man. I would be in a corner with my thumb in my mouth, piss on the floor and crying for mommy. Remember His son will be most likely looking at these and he is young. The DR. topped Todd off with Toyota red antifreeze he will be ok.That stuff is awsome!

Thanks for your support guys. Seriously Todd is awesome. Ill call him up at Toyota and harass him forever on parts stuff, just BSing, talking abou this, talking about that, hell trace down crap on diagrams, fax or email them to me, and wait for me to circle what i want and send the email back.

He even has slipped some cool toyota swag in some of my parts boxes for me. And hes always giving good advice to people when he gets a chance to stop by the site.

Just a clarification... Toyota Todd's mass is not cancerous, but the location can have serious, serious ramifications.
J when I was with the family they told me what it was , and you know who I am ,I was at Todd's when you put your tank on your gt4T. It is not the bad kind its not the good its in the mid. That's what is so frightening about this ,he had the blast of radiation last time and can't do it again but they should be able to use the cyber knife on them.T.G. we should know when he is healed up from the surg. if they can do it . Last time they cut it out in two pc. this time it was hundreds, they had to look around the other side of his S.Cord and get at it too.Todd always has to do things the hard way. I hope Robin and Mom and Dad are ok with me telling you this we just don't want Trevor to find out.So no its not bad cancer but what is good cancer?H.I.D.K. I just came from the Hospital and Todd looked good he said that he woke up a little better and that it did hurt(again) He had alot of loved ones with him and talked cars with any one who wanted to. He told his story of how he smoked a suped up camaro the week before his surgery! When they told Todd nice car at the next stop lite he informed them that he did it with a slipping clutch! Todd really took the wind out of their sails and they left with their tails between their legs! HA HA. Todd has his black allT with a blown motor and his awesome Gray GT4 needs a new clutch. His KDX220 is hard to start and his black lab. has a crapping problem.(she will go any place any time)And his back ! wow Todd needs a vacation. Let me tell you how tough he is, he was out riding his KDX in the woods 3 weeks ago, this hill had to be 5 stories high and it had a very steep angle Todd went up it and got 2/3 s of the way up and fell off slid all of the way down . Climbed all the way up to the bike not being able to stand up pulling on trees and roots anything to get to his bike , he stuggled to get on the bike and rode it down . Todd came back to us and rested in pain and upset that he did not get up the hill . He got back on his bike and took me to the hill. I was shocked when I saw it, Todd put it in gear reved it up dumped the clutch and went up the hill !!! At the top he threw his hands up and yelled you didn't beat me! We found out the hill was to come down not go up! That's Todd ! You can't tell him no it can't be done. I'm telling you this with a tear in my eye.

Hey Chet. Right after I posted that, I got a call from Robin. Apparently, he did not tell me for his own reasons probably of which that he did not want to worry me. So I went ahead and deleted my post, but it looks like you quoted me before I got it down.

What you said about Todd is so true. I chuckled reading it. I love that guy, and when Robin told me that it was cancer, I almost lost it. I hate for this to be happening to him again.

Tentative Announcement - Please Read This

With the new revelations on his situation, and the fact that Todd has no short term disability, there has been a change in plans with the gift idea...

To all reading this, we are changing this to a cash gift to cover Todd's families living expenses until some extra disability stuff kicks in. The way I see it, we have to raise a minimum of two mortgage payments for them.

Luni and I just got off the phone with each other. I will be making another mailing to announce a fund raising raffle. Just between mine and Luni's garages, we have quite a list of stuff to raffle off. I am also going to post in our admin/mod forum and ask those guys for anything they might want to chip in that is just taking up space. Hopefully that will encourage a lot of people to make a donation. Luni and I are also ponying some cash for Todd and hope others will too.

Mod and admins, look for details in our forum tomorrow.

Celicatech members, be ready for a kick ass raffle with looks of awesome prizes. I would like to set minimum donations at $5 (This is a value meal at McD's). Even if things are tight, consider skipping lunch for just one day to help an awesome guy out in a time of need. This is not a blown turbo or clutch we are talking about. This is a man's life and lively hood. The prizes will also be tiered. The higher the donation, the more expensive the prize.

Vendors, this may be a cool way to get your product out there for a very good cause and a tax write off ;)

Please stay tuned for another email announcement and thread once I have a chance to collect and inventory our prize list. Until then, please keep the well wishes coming to a great and one of a kind guy. The donation/raffle thread is coming up soon!

One more thing... Todd does not know about this. He did not ask, nor would he probably accept help. But he doesn't have much of a choice the way I see it. I will make him take it, if I have to drive 4 hours and stuff it in his mattress myself. If he refuses, he is also going to need an emergency procedure called a shoe in the asstraction.

I wish the best for you and your family at this time Todd. I know how overwhelming things can get as my wife and I had twins recently and had to spend an awful lot of time in the NICU for our little girl Alyssa. Alyssa had got a bad hospital infection and it had spread to her blood and spinal fluid. It was a tough 6 weeks of travel to and from Jacksonville. We are happy that she is home now and everthing is better. Alyssa just wanted to say "If I can do it , you can do it. Just say hang in there and get better."

Todd, I don't know you but I can tell that you have touched a lot of people. Just look at the celicatech community alone! Imagine how much more you have ahead of you. A good part of healing and getting well is positive thinking and it is very "infectious". So think positive(I know its hard) and "infect" your family, friends and the medical staff around you. The effect may not be immediately apparent to you but it goes a long way. Trust me.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers. You will be fine.
Take care.

You need to be there to give a helping hand to those who need help with cars. Thank you for all that you have done for this community and for your friends and family.

wow, i havent been on here in a loooooong time.

the reason is because of a back injury [one herniated disc, maybe more-need a painful test to find out whats definite] i received while working on a box truck two years ago. i havent been able to work on my cars, havent been able to return to working at all, and actually havent been able to do any of the things i loved to do that required physical activity.

after reporting my injury to my bosses, the general manager decided to fuck me over and refuse to report to the work comp commission, wouldnt give my lawyers the info, and as a result i have spent these two years in litigation, unable to seek proper medical treatment and falling into deep debt. only as recently as a month ago did i receive some of the unpaid disability money and some of the medical bills were compensated after a favorable decision from the judge, though they are still screwing with me and i still await the rest of what i am owed.

i also lost all my friends who were tied with my job [directly or stemming from] due to a backstabbing by a ''friend'' co-worker because of my injury, which left me with maybe 2 friends, only one of which i have spoken to, and only online at that. [this is excluding those gone due to school/military/etc that i havent seen/spoken to in years]

as a result of all this i found myself in a hell of a depression during this time, of which only recently was i able to get my head above the water [due in large part to my winning the trial and receiving my disability and medical money, as well as treatment].

though its taken me over two years to be able to get real treatment as well as the money necessary for my bills and other things, and though i still have yet to receive compensation for all the disability money and medical bills thus far, let alone even START proper treatment, i have resolved to improve my condition somehow. and now, after that lengthy court battle and favorable decision, i can at last do just that. ive been stuck only with being on heavy pain meds this whole time and they really havent been doing such a good job of things-the pain is still always there, always interfering with my everyday life, sometimes to the point where i want to puke from the its intensity.

i have a long road of recovery ahead of myself as well, if even i can recover, but the pain of having lost so much has finally lit a fire under my ass to try to get those things back. maybe i can even manage to get my all trac back on the road, since its been sitting for about 1.5 yrs.

i guess i should also mention all of this occured at the ripe old age of only 20 [now 22, will be 23 this year].

i do wish for a speedy recovery for you todd. as evidenced, i can surely understand your pain, though the affliction may be different. its no use being down about it, as i have found it does no good.

During the past eight years I have come to know what living in constant pain is. No one, however well intentioned, can understand what this means. My heart goes out to Todd, whom I do not know, other than through the unofficial brotherhood of spinal cord injury sufferers.

My damage was done to my neck, during surgery, when three disks were removed and replaced with bone harvested from my pelvis. Shortly after surgery, I experienced problems walking and developed pain that ultimately spread to all four of my limbs. Prior to surgery, I had "only" excruciating pain in my right arm. Afterwards...

Constant pain separates the sufferer from the rest of society; even from one's family. We constantly receive advice from well-meaning people who tell us how well we look, that everyone has pain, and that we just have to learn how to live with it...

We're held in suspicion by druggists and even doctors when we ask for pain-killers to control the demon that roars within us. We sweat from the pain until our clothes are soaked and we have to change. We feel like our limbs are being crushed or burned.

I missed an appointment with my pain specialist the other day, He knows that the cocktail of six meds he has me on causes memory loss. I have an IQ of 140, but now often can't remember which day of the week it is. Still, his office may have felt that I needed to be punished for forgetting my appointment. They gave me a new appointment two weeks from now, knowing that I could not renew my pain med prescription until I saw the doctor again. I'll run out in a day or two and then I'll begin suffering from not only more pain, but from withdrawal from the pain meds. I don't know yet what I'll say to the doctor the next time I see him, since I need his support if I want to keep getting my meds.

I used to sit in my apartment, wrapped in my pain, crying, at three or four in the morning, thinking about how my wife and I lost our home when I became disabled, thinking about how much SHE has suffered from my disability; learning to do things by herself, after over thirty years of doing EVERYTHING together, developing plan after plan of how I could kill myself - and still allow my wife to get my insurance.

This is the reality of spinal injuries and the pain they cause. I'm sorry guys, but nothing you can say can make the pain go away - or even lessen. But your thoughts are always welcome. Good luck Todd, I know what you're going through.

Thank you all!!! :D

You'll never know how your thoughts and prayers pulled me out of a deep depression. My wife would read me some of the things that you wrote and it really touched me. Its amazing that something as simple as the love of automobiles would assemble such a group of awesome people. My parents and other family members that passed the laptop around to read the posts could not believe it either. I am proud to be part of such a great community of car enthusiasts.

As for my recovery, here is the scoop. In the first surgery they removed the tumor in hunderds of pieces because it wrapped around my spinal cord. They did not get all of the cells away from the nerves on the spinal cord. They are going to follow up with a radiation treatment called "Cyber Knife". I was concerned about the knife part, but no cutting is involved. So they release me from the hospital to recover at home. Thats when I sprung a leak and went to the ER @ 2:30 in the morning. The ER doctor was a moron , he said it was just normal seepage from the gash in my back. Needless to say, he was wrong, When I stood up it ran like a facet! I called my DR and got a 12:00 appt. My surgeon scheduled me for surgery the next day since I had just eaten lunch and could not knock me out on a full stomach. At this point, I am pissed. Getting better is difficult enough without this BS. I come through the 2nd surgery to find that staying flat on my back for 72 hours is part of my recovery. Oh joy, 12 crappy cable channels...No Speed, no Spike, no good. I get to the end of the 3rd day and they say I can get up and walk. Yeah right! I was seeing 3 of everything. The pain from extensive repair work was much worse this time. Even my friendly Morphin button was no relief. The next day was better and I was able to walk and get the the cathader out. Everyday gets a little better and I get a little stronger. My only concerns are some numbness/tingling in my toes and feet, which could be attributed to some nerve damage. Laying and sitting in chair is not comfortable either. This time its 36 staples, and countless stitches makes lounging difficult let alone a car ride.

Thanks to my buddy Jay for putting up the link and for everyones support. I must say that your thoughts, letters, etc.... have speeded up my recovery and put me in a better frame of mind.

I'm glad that you're feeling better. Those staples, especially when they're in your back, can be murder. I cannot lie on my stomach, since my neck will not turn sufficiently and I'd end up smothering myself. After my nine surgeries in two-and-a-half years, the only way I could sleep was "sitting" in a chair with a pile of pillows on my lap and me lying forward on top of them. Of course, every time I fell asleep and then woke up and moved, my stitches/staples would scream at me. I made the doctor promise no-more-staples, which is easier for the doc than stitching, since one surgery on my lower back and buttock left me sitting on the damn pointy little things while I tried to heal. It was like trying to sleep while sitting on a cactus!
The morphine pump didn't work for me. Even when cranked all the way down, everytime I drifted off to sleep, I stopped breathing! Very inconvenient.
Most of my surgeries during that time were for the insertion of neuromodulators, which were buried under my skin and wired into my spinal cord in my neck and lower back. I could adjust them up or down to try to control the pain. It caused a "buzzing" or vibrating feeling to radiate down my lower back and legs, or from my neck to my finger tips. When they were working, they did help alleviate the pain. The problem was that they kept breaking.
And so it was to the hospital to get one installed and then back to get it fixed and then back to get another installed somewhere else and then back to fix one or both or them -- over and over.
They finally had to yank all the devices and wires out, but not after a long surgical procedure when a second surgeon tried to cut a "window" in one of my neck vertebra so they could slide a large "paddle lead" in, which they hoped would fix everything (i never did understand how, since it was the equipment that kept failing). Well, NOPE. after four hours, they gave up. There was too much scar tissue in the spinal canal to even slide the lead in. An outpartient surgery turned into a week in the hospital. If you ever consider this type of surgery, please PM me. I'll have a lot of advice for you.
I'm sorry if my last post was too morose and ended up depressing you. I just wanted to tell everyone how isolated we often feel. It sounds like you've got a great, supportive family, Todd. And that love can cause MIRACLES to happen. You have my best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery.

I had to go back in the afternoon to talk to the doctor about the numbness and how my foot feel like its falling asleep constantly. He said it is just a miracle that I can walk, so I am not complaining. I am still very limited to basic mobility which is a pain in the butt. You never realize how many things you drop until you can't bend over to pick them up! :hehe:

The latest news is that my son Trevor happens to be just as graceful as me. With 2 days of school to go, he broke his collarbone on the playground. Lets put it this way, the wife is about to go nuts. :(

Update!

Well I have been staying at my parents home in IL living the in the lap of luxery. My mother has found a way for me to put most of the weight back on that I had lost in the hospital. Now thats some good cookin!!! The weight gain is in probably due in part to my lack of exercise. My body is just not getting back in the groove like it did 15 years ago and that is depressing. :thumbsdow When I do take a walk or go somewhere, my feet tingle and feel like they are falling asleep. As minor as this sounds, it consumes my mind and makes me a little crazy. My concern also turns to some of the complications of what the Cyber Knife can yield. My doctor said that further nerve damage is not out of the question with my procedure. So I have not been sleeping well and I have turned to sleeping pills for assistance in my slumber. The good news is that my son Trevor is doing well and gets to lose his sling tuesday. He is so excited and I am ready for him to be back to full mobility.

I just want to thank everyone for their thoughts and well wishes. This group of people amazes me and my family everyday.

Hey Celica groupies! :D

Heres the update. Went to the oncologist this week and he could not tell if it was tumor remnants or scar tissue (from 3 surgeries). So no Cyber Knife right now. He wants me to get another batch of MRI's in 3 months and then he will see what he thinks. The surgeon has me starting back to work monday (for half days for 2 weeks) with some restrictions. He also suggests getting some Physical Therapy, which I dread. :( My wife says I screwed up, because he had no intention on putting me back to work yet. But I really need to get the income back up, Ebay does not pay well after all the fees and PayPal takes its share too.

Thanks to everyone for all the support, thoughts, prayers, etc. I love all of you like family. I am still in awe over what the thread that Jay started turned into. My family and friends could not believe what a great group of people we have here. Its really impressive! So thanks to all of you at CelicaTech, me and my family really appreciate you.

So I meet Play in Champaign, IL for the Speed-Source meet on saturday. As he says his good-byes, he hands me this pink envelope. It is a very funny get well card from the Celicatech members. The card is almost as funny as Jay's first post about me and my medical situation. Also in this envelope is a check of gi-normous proportions. All I can say is THANKS to all of you, that was very generous!! I am sure that I could not be surrounded by a more sincere and giving group. From those of you that wrote to me and raised my spirits, and believe me...they needed some raising. To the thoughtful gift baskets that my wife & I enjoyed emensely. Just wanted to say thanks again for everyones generosity and kind words here on the board and in my mail box. To keep you all updated, I visited the doctor last week and got some news. The Cyber Knife is on hold due to the small size of the tumor remnents. He says that it will grow in time and will have to be removed in some way (CK or more surguery). The CK would be the preferred method of course and I will be monitored closely by frequent MRI's to keep tabs on the tumors growth. He said that is will most likely be more aggressive because I could not do the radiation treatments like I did 15 years ago. Just wanted to keep you all in the loop on my progress and future prognosis.

Thanks guys and gals of CelicaTech! :bigthumbu

I have a system I invented called the PK.* The procedure is pretty damn high-tech so I don't know if you want to go the low-tech chemotherapy or the ancient and archaic CK route. I have had a 100% cure rate on my patients.** Can the CK boast such figure? I have been having a hard time getting FDA approval, but I could always work on you on the side, right?
