I have a flip up sunroof and need help from someone who knows about, or also has one. I know that the main clip you push up, then the sunroof goes up about 3 inches on one side, but is that it? Becuse theres 2 smaller clips on the other side, I tried pulling them but I dont want to break anything, they might be screwed in. Because if thats all it opens, then its pretty useless.

Perhaps you have an aftermarket sunroof.

The factory ones will tilt upward at a 45 degree angle at three inches. It also will slide completely open.

pop the two front clips and the entire window glass pops out...provided you detach the handle (usually a quick release type thing). It's an aftermarket pop-up sunroof.

It is aftermarket. I have an aftermarket sliding roof, you have the flip-up pop-out roof. The two clips on the front will release the entire piece so that you can remove the glass. The same difference as sliding the roof back.

Same, me's want one.

So you guys have to take the whole glass out and store it somewhere in the car? Isn't that kind of a pain?

Mine is a slide back, it works similar to the factory roof, but it is a glass one.

Tilts open and then slides back over the roof, there are pics of in in my garage here.

You can get them done at almost any custom shop, look around. They aren't cheap, but they aren't too awful expensive.

That would be the same one. I took the wing off years ago, the lights are still tinted. It is a power roof. It was on the car when I bought her.

tried fiddling with my sunroof the other day, theres no way that thing comes out or slides back. All it seems to be capable of is lifting up the 3 inches. :(

This one is brand new...it comes in 3 pieces. The glass, the top piece insert (it has a lip so it sits on the roof and inside the hole) and the underside.

SO once the hole is cut the top piece sits inside the hole and the under side piece mates up against it and screws into the top piece....thus compressing the two pieces together and sealing it with whatever you used to seal it.

Now the main handle....at the back

squeeze the two tabs together and it comes apart
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/schmooot/sunroof/P5010042.jpg

And the glass has these little things on it like so....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/schmooot/sunroof/P5010043.jpg..

which fit into the tab on the sunroof
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/schmooot/sunroof/P5010044.jpg

Now the sunroof itself has two tabs at the front that will look like this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/schmooot/sunroof/P5010038.jpg

pop open the tab
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/schmooot/sunroof/P5010039.jpg

And the glass pops right out.

That is the standard aftermarket pop-up sunroof. It looks like murg has a much fancier one. I lucked out and found this one at a garage sale for 5 bux....but I have bought them from an auto wrecker before for about $20 bux........non leaking ones are few and far between though so buyer beware on that note. And brand new they are a hundred possibly or more depending on the model

Mine is motorized. Slide back, the whole nifty thing. I have had the pop-out ones before. In Cavaliers.

Thanks schmoot. I finally figured it out. BTW where would I store this in the car?

how secure are these anyway?

I'd be worried that a car thief might be tempted to test it's build.

not very secure. and you'll find a wind issue with the glass out...it helps to have an aftermarket wind spoiler or something. I just throw it in the backseat when its out but I rarely take it all the way out anyways

well, cars like mr2's and 300zx's with t-tops have a bag and a storage spot where the glass can rest saely
