I blew up yet another transmission... that's number 3... Fortunately for me 1sloceli has been nice enough to give me his old S53 and I'll be putting it in tomorrow. I'll take pictures but I can tell it's not good because after it blew it leaked tranny fluid all over, stopped the motor and also it popped out the drivers side CV Axle. Hopefully whatever blew didn't mess up my flywheel, clutch or pressure plate. *sigh*... well I'm going to bed, going to start early tomorrow morning.

I've done so many that I should be able to get this done w/in 3-4 hours. *Knock on wood*

I still have one on you. I've successfully destroyed 4 transmissions in various cars. I am the mastah.

Good luck on sourcing another one. Hope the install goes smooth!!

Anyways this tranny was a temporary fix. It was a bastardization of the last two trannies. In order for you to understand let me give you the history.

Tranny number 1 blew up the internals, no idea why.

Tranny number 2 was ventilated via a dowel pin in the flywheel coming out because a crappy machine shop forgot to set it properly, it bounced around and made a nice hole in the bellhousing.

Tranny number 3 was using the internals of tranny number 2 and the bellhousing of tranny number 1. At the time we didn't have a way of checking the preload on the differential and I have a feeling this had something to do with the catastrophic failure of tranny number 3.... So, I'm now back to installing tranny number 4... *sigh* Wish me luck.

yeah celicatrd, im running a moddified 3sgte on my stock 198xxx mile tranny. thats around 230 stock fwhp. Oh and its got redline atf in it right now. I had scyncromesh and liked it better, I just havnt had time to fix it yet.

Looks crappy, I hope you get it up and running again soon.

How much powah are you making joey? I know the s53 is made of paper machette but are you really demolishing them around 200whp? or were they all doomed from the start?

Well more of a problem of how hard I drive them... Realize that I autoX about every weekend, and sometimes multiple times in a weekend. I'm hard on the car and that's just how it goes. I've got access to an E-153 but I don't want the long gear ratios, so for now this is what I'm going to have to live with.

Ahh ok, I knew you autocrossed but not that often. Your choice to stay with the s53 makes a lot of sense then.

i can understand your stitution, pushing 230hp with a tranny that has 198,xxx. thats normal, but keeping on blowing up tranny's every other month, now thats not normal, but shit happens. plus i was joking :) good luck with swaping your tranny hopefully it would be the last one.

I know this tranny won't be the last one. I'm going to have to get myself an S54 (even shorter gear ratios) and an LSD (the S54/S53 series trannies can can accept an LSD for a 7th Gen celica or MRS). Problem is, LSDs are expensive... but what isn't when you're racing? *sigh* oh well.

So... the transmission totally F'ed up the pressure plate... and I went to the local dealer which I have a rebate with and they "said" they had the right pressure plate in stock... lo and behold... it's for a 5SFE... Won't have one in until Thursday *sigh*
