Calling all members,

I've been looking around for a motor for the GTS and haven't really come across a lot of options. Although one of my options is to use a 6th generation 5S-FE. I know they are the same motor but would the situation simply be dropping the motor in my car and plugging it in? Are there major differences between the two generations 5S-FEs?
I know I had a thread about this not to long ago so I apoligize for starting a new one. I couldn't find my old one. Thanks for all the help.

-Matt

Engines are the same, electronics are not. You'd have to use your sensors.

I have a running 90/91 5s here with new water pump & timing belt, plugs, wires, dizzy, blah blah blah

yeah only because 92+ got a knock sensor and a few other things, then some newer 5sfes came obd2.

you'll need the ecu from the 6th gen too. the only difference's i can remember off the top of my head is some updated electronics like the distributor, fuel injection went from batch fire to either semi or full sequential , knock sensor, and i believe the water jackets are a little more narrow on the 97+ 5sfe. also the cams are little better. in all the motor runs a bit leaner with cleaner combustion.

The engines are NOT the same inside.
But you don't need the electronics to run one.
You can run a 99 Celica 5SFE with a 90 ECU.
OBDII is all in the ECU.

Whatever year you can get ahold of, get it.
But, newer is probably better.
98/99 had a MHG.

You will need to swap your intake manifold, valve cover, and assorted sensors.

Where are you located?

Thanks for all the help everyone! So if I end up using a 92'+ I'm going to have to switch all the sensors?

i think that with the money your going to pay for a 99 5sfe you miles well get a 91 3sgte :)

use your old harness and ecu. then you can swap over whatever is different from your old motor. the distributor and a few other small things need to be changed over.

Alright, thanks everyone.

The reason I'm not buying the 3s-gte is because this car is going to be my DD. It's the only car I have for my little girl and me and swapping a 3S in to the mix would be irresponible. Plus, I've been saving for a trac :)
