If your in the Chicagoland area and have not been to this place, you should check it out:
www.chicagoindoorracing.com

I'm part of the league there, but you can arrive and sign up to race. The cost is $25 for the first 2 races and then $10 for each subsequent race.

Here's some pics from a race I did last weekend there, it was fun as hell!

If you have your own helmet bring it, CIR has everything covered though if you don't. There is nothing cheaper if you want to experience wheel to wheel racing.

Looks fun, is there anyway you can rent them?

This place is exacty that - you essentially rent the karts! Some people just show up and race. The cost of renting a kart and racing covers the helmet and your suit too. I just bring my own helmet and suit so I don't have to seek out the ones that fit me every time I go.

I wonder if there are any in your area?

For the price - the experience of wheel to wheel racing this is the cheapest there is.

The karts are fast enough to drift around turns and slide the rear end out. I was using some drift to get around the outside of people last night! :)
I photoshopped this one with a blurred background:

Can you ask next time you're there if they have any other locations?

I would do a search for 'Indoor Karting' and your area and see if there are any facilities near you.
These things are popping up in a lot of different areas. Hopefully there is one near you.

Chicago Indoor Racing has 1 facility in Buffalo Grove, IL. but now there is an announcement that they are expanding to construct a new additional facility in Addison, IL. From what the staff told me, this new place will not come to fruition until a year from now.

Thread resurrect! Got a video to put up now, albeit was filmed a long time ago (I didn't have my black coveralls yet) this is track 1 at Chicago Indoor Racing. The other guys I raced with are part of a local car club:

:wiggle:

The more I look at the video I see mistakes I'm making all around the track, I have shaved more than 2 seconds off my lap times nowadays.

:sneak: The green flag dropped and I had my revs up. ;) The marshals said it was a legal start. heh heh heh :)

They will stop and re-start the race if it was a false start.

we have one of those out doors here in NH, its next to a mini golf place and a batting cage with an arcade. its 5 bucks a token and one token a ride. they go pretty quick, but a lot slower than what i remember when i was little. they have them decorated like nascar sponsors its pretty neat.

At Chicago Indoor Racing the karts have transponders. Your laptimes and positions are recorded by computer down to the hundredth of a second. You'll get a printout of your race results after the races. Its great 'cause you can really tell whose running faster laptimes even if just .01 of a second separates the 2 drivers.

That looks way too fun. I need to go do this, and if you guys decide to do a group deal in the spring, that would be sweet. I'm in Bloomington so it's a couple hours hrs away for me.

I am going this Saturday night to go racing at Chicago Indoor Racing. I am racing with a local car enthusiast group. Anyone who likes to join in, consider yourself invited!

Pretty cool to go roadracing wheel to wheel while its 20 degrees and a foot of snow outside.

What engines do they have??

Hear near my town they have an outdoor track with 2 stroke 125cc racing cars to hire and they are uber uber fast, i think im going to die everytime i go down the straight and turn into the firs corner, your neck get tired because of the handling and acceleration after 10mins, scary... love kart racing, unfortunately we dont have any racing like that here, either you have your own racing kart and join the championships were its super serious or just have fun.
