im deciding wether or not i want a gts or a gt coupe!!! right now im not going anywhere because i love the coupe style but i also love the wide body of the gts. there's a guy selling a 91 gts with invader sides and rear molded on for 100$. car has no rust what so ever. has a gt-four hood. inside is stock. 5spd. he said he'll add the running motor in for 100$ but i have to put it in. so in that case i will be bringing it to a shop. can someone post up souped up pictures of a gts? i've tried google but i want to see what you guys have! thanks :bigthumbu

Widebody>Coupe

Widebody<Coupe

Fixed :hehe:

But in your case, I wouldn't get that particular GT-S. IMO, body kits don't look very good on our cars (for either coupe or liftback). Plus, it doesn't seem like it even runs, and a shop is going to charge a lot to put that engine back in. I'd personally just wait to find a different running celica.

BTW, you can put widebody front fenders on a coupe. Dunno how good it'd look, but it's something to think about.

I'll actually be putting them on my car tomorrow. I'll take a before and after, and one of each on for comparison. I'm hoping it looks good heh. Oh well, too wide fenders are better than dented fenders right?

you'd be a fool to choose a gt over a gts. get the gts and the motor and put it in yourself. i like to drop the motor onto a dolly and lift the car up with the engine hoist and roll the motor out from underneath.

if you can see in the backround the cars front end is lifted

Why?

The GT doesnt have (usually) as many options, making it lighter. Same goes with the widebody on the GT-S. And coupes handle better compared to a liftback. Yet, i like them both, i guess its all mainly personal preference.

they should have made a widebody coupe. combining the best of both cars.

TheNefariousOne

Yea, if you ask me, for performance, the GT-S is the WORST option. It's a fricken boat when optioned out and it doesn't offer any significant performance advantage otherwise over the other trim levels.

I like the liftbacks over the coupes. They give me a boner, just kidding, but seriously. I think you would like a gts over the coupe, but if you can find it get a gt liftback, imho, its slightly sexier. The liftbacks are hevier, but not a hell of a lot. You will not notice any difference in performance between the two, so really its what you like as far as style. Although bodykits=the devil, I like the gts over coupe.

im sorry but if your refferring to the gt coupe as a better performance car and would rather choose it over a gts you are retarded. unless your building a 3sgte and a gutted car then there is no reason for you to have a gt. the gts is the nicest car i have ever owned, what i wouldnt do to have that car back... i had all leather, power everything and it just looked damn sexy. dropped it an inch and i could make 90 degree turnes at 40mph. if your worried about the extra weight go to the damn gym...70% of america is overweight, so there is a high possibility that YOU, YES YOU! FELLOW CTECHERS! are indeed fat.

hit the gym, lose a few pounds or atleast to the point where you can see your penis again... and you'll be running circles around a gt :hehe:

But in all seriousness, [Alltracs aside] if I wanted a Celica purely for performance, I would get a GT hatch.
I think the hatch chassis is lighter than the coupe chassis.
And a 3 point rear strut bar will make up for the open rear

But, I prefer the widebody as far as looks.
Though the 92/93 GT hatch with the small flat spoiler is SEXY when it's clean and nice....

BUT, unless I was buying for a straight racecar, I would get a widebody.
It's not that much heavier. A turbo will even it up nice.
It can be made fast, it will be nice inside, and it will look good.
All 3 go together, unless you are building a racecar....

That's true. I'm a GTS owner and wouldn't have it any other way, but bottom line is coupes do have the abillity to outperform LBs.

I have it as the coupe being 199lbs lighter at 2447lbs. (oem spec)

Performance goes to the GT. Comfort creatures go to the GTS(when fully loaded). Some of the earlier model GTS from 1990-1991 didn't come with all the features i believe. So it's still possible for a GTS not to be too sluggish!

TheNefariousOne
03-29-2007, 03:00 AM
The difference isn't THAT huge, but it should be clear that all other things the same, a GT coupe will outpeform a GT-S. I personally never understood why Toyota would create Celica GT-Ss that didn't differ in performance from their GT counterparts. Doesn't that just make it an optioned out GT? I dunno...

grayscale
03-29-2007, 03:26 AM
^ Yes, that's exactly what it is. It's the same way for most any car. According to manufacturers, different tags on cars do not identify a different platform or anything in specific. All it means to them is "trim level". Hence the ST, STX, GT, GTS and others. ST and GT were different platforms while ST and STX were just different trim levels. You could choose x amount of options with the GT but if you stepped up to GTS you could get more/other options. To the manufacturer the only performance difference is between the ST, GT, and AT platforms. They don't get detailed enough to differentiate performance between trim levels.

The 5th gen Celica GTS is the nicest looking this side of an alltrac. It will accept much larger tires since it is (WIB) wide bodied like the alltrac. It has auto climate control, opt leather, opt sunroof, opt SYS 10, opt ABS. After having an ST185, a GTS would be a great daily driver. Just add a free-flow exhaust, maybe a header and you will never look back at the added few pounds that the GTS has over its lil GT brother. If the previous owner did the regular maintainace, that 5SFE will last forever. :bigthumbu

I dunno, none of that stuff matters to me. I'd rather control the climate control myself, leather = sticky in the hot blah, gimme cloth anyday, even STs came with sunroofs, system 10 is pretty cool but I'd rather just go custom, and ABS is only necessary if you get yourself into shit i.e. stop too late.

It really boils down to personal preference. Don't get me wrong, I would scoop up a GT-S in a heartbeat, but I don't think they are THAT much better than a GT coupe or hatch. Hell they're not even that different. You could get some of the GT-S stuff as options on the GTs.

1990CelicaGT-S
03-29-2007, 05:10 AM
The only things I would switch from a GT-S to a GT would be the system 10 and rear discs. I love widebody but if it came down to it I'd be able to live without it.

^Rear discs were an option on GT, not just a GTS thing.
