Hello all.

My name is Dave and I drive a 97 GT as my daily driver. I bought it before last winter because I didn't want to get stuck driving my project car, an 88 TA through the salt of another winter. Now that it’s spring again I’m going to be driving the TA again but my Celica will remain my daily driver.

I'm mainly a GM guy though I do appreciate gems like the s2000, r6, gt4, etc. I'm generally not a fan of the import scene because of all the kids that ruin it for everyone else by JDMing out their cars with everything they can possibly get their hands on, from JDM rear view mirrors to JDM shift knobs. I have slightly more harsh views on the subject of “bling” (aka bodykits, crazy spoilers, etc) but we won’t go there ;)

I’ve been working on cars for a couple of years now. The most in depth project I’ve tackled thus far was a 700r4 to T-56 (4 speed auto to 6 speed manual) swap in my TA. I’ve owned 8 thus far and I think I’ve finally settled on a pair that I will be happy with for a while.

I’m also an audio junkie, which is how I meet david in ger who introduced me to this forum.

I tend to be somewhat cynical at times but don’t take anything I say seriously to heart. I never mean to offend, just poke fun :)

Hopefully I can help some of you guys out and give you some cool stereo pics to ogle at the same time.

Very cool man, welcome. What's under the hood of the T/A? I'd love to have a 3rd gen F-body (they're t3h secks) but I couldn't deal with the gas mileage and insurance as it stands now in my life situation.

Very cool man, welcome. What's under the hood of the T/A? I'd love to have a 3rd gen F-body (they're t3h secks) but I couldn't deal with the gas mileage and insurance as it stands now in my life situation.

It's a more or less stock L98 (350 TPI). I would guess HP to be around 265-275 right now thanks to the exhaust + ram air intake. Maybe a little more. I started building the car up with the intention of leaving the engine as the last thing I would do. It’s got quite a bit of torque to it – 330 ft/lbs stock and who knows what now. I can break the rear end free in second by getting on the gas without much trouble.

Current mods:
My front end consists of a coilover conversion (http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1543) with Koni reds, tubular A-arms (http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1495) with delrin bushings, an AGR racing steering box, and all new moog steering components (ball joints, idler arm, and centerlink).

As I mentioned earlier, I did a T-56 swap (http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1304) and used a chrome moly crossmember and torque arm. I'm also running a front DS loop. The t-56 was NOS when I bought it. I’m running a spec stage 3 clutch (very grabby, not good for daily driving but it’s lots of fun otherwise) and a centerforce flywheel.

Chassis wise I have Spohn sub frame connectors (http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1309) and an 8 point roll cage (haven’t installed the cage yet).

If any of you guys know obscure Borg Warner rear ends I’m running a 9 bolt. New posi cones, gears, PBR brakes with aluminum calipers, and a rear end girdle (http://www.taperformance.com/rearend.htm).

The only appearance mods thus far are the front coilovers (the nose is a little lower), the ram air hood, and a fiberglass replacement of the OEM rubber rear spoiler that rotted away. The only other appearance related mods I want to do are new rims and paint the car.

Other things to do include a blown ls1, finishing off the interior, and the rear coil over conversion. Then it’s pretty much done. I spent $10k on it purely in mods last season alone :ugh:

I think that last sentence explains why I won’t be doing much modding to the Celica other than the stereo work and possibily some cheaper rims and lowering. Then again, the stereo work is quickly approaching the $3k mark :squint:

Thanks for the warm welcome thus far :D

Weclome aboard. That is some serious work you have done to the F-Body.

Watch out for Snackeater, he will think you are part of the Mullet Collective. :hehe:

I have owned a few dozen F-Bodies, they are a damn fine car.

The TA really isn't a thing of beauty - yet. It will be once it gets paint but I'm putting that off till I graduate and get a real job. I'm going to try to get it up on a lift at some point in the next week to look for a broken mount. When it's up in the air I will take some under car shots if you guys want.

No mullet here. I think they would probably kill you for that out here in Jersey.

Not yet but it's in the works. If you read the first post you would see that I'm currently rocking out a L98 ;)

/sigh. I guess I will go take more pictures. Nothing better to do right now anyway

Oh my gawd! You drive a 3rd Gen F-Body and you are from Jersey? C'mon you HAVE to have a mullet now!

Sorry, I am still trapped in the 80s. :hehe:

Dont worry about Murg, he was a mullet wearing f-body owner. Im more of the new age F-body owner, no mullet here. I also read that you had the L98 and I just re-read the post, I see you want to eventualy get an FI LS1 in the T/A. Congrats on your extremely good looking T/A and your newer Celica GT.

So I took the pictures, copied them to my computer, started doing something else and then my computer blue screend. It won’t even boot into safe mode right now. I was planning on building a new computer this summer but it looks like that date just got pushed forward. This thread is going to take a small hiadus until I can either build a new computer or fix this one.

Fixed it after some futzing around. I'm only running one of my three sticks of memory (512 megs now from 1.5 gigs :()

Oh well. It's working.

For the next four pictures I couldn't decide if I liked the high or the low shot more so I'm going to post both.

Low

Hopefully you caught the weird fender on the driver's side in those last two pictures. About a year ago someone hit my car in a parking lot and drove away without leaving a note while I was at work. They took out the nose, nose support, and driver's side fender. I'm rocking a junkyard fender right now and haven't bothered installing the new nose/nose support yet although I did purchase them both new. I did use the accident as an excuse to buy the fiberglass hood (the stock hood is fine) and a new fiberglass bumper to replace the stock one that was rotting away.

The JY fender in all it’s glory

The lines are nice and straight. Go me for the body work :D

I think out of those pictures that the high ones look better. I can't believe some people...if someone hit my car and drove off nothing said I'd track them down and kill them.

I think you got it wrong. It is the lack of an IROC-Z that gets you killed in New Jersey.
