Hm, imagine that, a 2000GT as a collector's car, whooda thought... No surprise here, most of the cars they are talking about are about as rare as they get. Nice note on the 1st gen Celicas though.

Yup, them old 2000GT's were pretty damn fine Toyotas, as I recall (have only ever seen one in my life...)

Posh, 1st gen's all the way :D .....(well, except for the solid axle part).

I'd never heard that bit about Shelby and the 2000GT before, though. That's kinda sad, I wonder where Toyota would be today. Instead of a new GT500, we'd be getting a new Toyota Shelby Supra or something.

Actually, one of Carol Shelby's proteges raced/led Toyota teams well into the 80s. Don't remember the guys name, guess that's why he's not a Carol Shelby.

I had heard about Shelby and the 2000GT before. He raced them for a few years, as did another big name, I can't recall who, Bondurant I think. They felt the biggest problem was the inline 6 powerplant. Can you imagine a 'Shelby 2000GT' with a Ford V8 factory? :hehe:

I still want a 1rst Gen and a 3rd Gen, I would prefer a Liftback and Celica Supra respectively.

I guess it's a good thing that I bought my 1972.

There's a 2000GT at the local junkyard....

Amen to that Celica Supra lust...when that car came out it seemed exotic and unobtainable - at least from my high-school age and minimum wage earning perspective.

Wouldn't mind a 76-77 LB with an 18rg and dual dellorto sides on mikuni mani. I'd also like $5k bucks to spend on my 5gc but we can all see how close I am to that!

You've seen one????? Ummmm, yeah ... dunno if you're asking " You've seen ONE ???" (like, only one ??) Or "You've SEEN one ?" (like, actually seen one?) Was in late '70's/early 80's at best ... didn't recognize it as a Toyota :) Spent summers in an upscale summer area on east coast - grew up surrounded by, but never owning, very cool cars ;)
