Toyota looked good!

Testing has come to a close for the winter. This time of year I'm always very excited and for good reason. Toyota has looked horrible throughout the winter, dead last in the 21-22nd spots could have been an option. Amazingly though during qualification Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher put in Top-10 qualifying runs, 8th and 9th respectively.

The usuals were up front, Kimi on pole and Alonso right next to him. Alonso transfered to Kimi's old team, McLaren this year coming off of his 2 consecutive championship wins with Renault. Kimi got the open position at Ferrari now that Micheal Schumacher has retired (YES!). This year promises to be very exciting! The BMW's are looking very strong as well, Quick Nick is in 3rd. The young Lewis Hamilton rookie is along side Alonso at McLaren and put in a great qualification for 4th place. He is also the first black ethnic individual to race in F1, very promising young man, looks very smooth on the track! We'll be keeping an eye on him all season, expect him to shine. Renault did not look strong though, Fisi only getting a best of 6th place with his new rookie teammate Heikki Kovalainen could only do 13th. A surprise Redbull qualification by Mark Webber in 7th, but the sister Toro Rosso team with American Scott Speed are struggling with their STR2 car at the back of the field. The japanese team of Super Aguri look to have a great setup on their hands (though a potentially illegal car as its based on Honda's 06 chasis, we will see what happens politically as the season begins with that if other teams fight it) and placed 10th for Takuma Sato, amazing start from last years season! Honda looks disastrous while the Spyker team is getting to grips.

All in all.. excellent qualification rounds. If you don't know how it works, its fairly simple and exciting.

The cars all head out on the track and put in the best lap times they can while trying to avoid traffic to get a perfect run, this first session is called Q1. The slowest 6 are then pulled off the grid and designated their respective places at the back from their times. Then Q2 they do the same, the last 6 are designated their positions. A last session begins with the top 10 shooting it out. Amazingly during Q2 the top 10 were all within 1.1 seconds of one another, should be some GREAT racing this year!

Tonight is the GP, if your looking its on SpeedTV @ 10:30 EST.

Yep, got it all setup in time :)

It was a good race, Kimi was very strong from the start but both of the McLarens were nipping at his heel.
