After a day at the local track here. I couldn't even break into 15's :slap:

1st run
Reaction .552
60' 2.44
330' 6.826
1/8 10.516
mph 66.99
1000 13.58
1/4 16.181
mph 86.57

2nd run
Reaction .655
60' 2.399
330' 6.774
1/8 10.489
mph 67.13
1000 13.591
1/4 16.197
mph 86.20

I cam into the day hoping to run a 14 or atleast a 15. After analyzing the situation here's my reasoning why I couldn't break 15's.

Amature driving skills on the track. First time ever to drive the slick track.
No functional tachometer. Pretty much launched by hearing sense. :duh:
Crappy tires, got the 185/65/14 cheap 55 dollar econo dayton radials.
Excessive weight onboard, 2 12" subs with full size spare and cooler filled with a bunch of rc stuff. I would say maybe about 150 lbs of dead weight I could have left home before going. I was rushed and didn't have time to unload all that crap. Also had about a 1/2 tank of fuel, didn't really know how far the track was but now I know exactly how much I'll need next time.

To sum it up I guess I really didn't do horrible considering the situation. I think having no tach really killed me though. Weird how 8th mile was faster in the second run but 1/4 time was faster in first. I really was having issues launching, tires kept bouncing. Car kept shaking.

This blue car is 100% stock 3sgte. Hopefully for the next track meet I'll have some mods done. Perhaps a intake pipe and also gut the downpipe, definately get the tach fixed. Also getting some better tires and being prepared next time by cleaning out my car.

100% bone stock swap. 3sgte in it. No mods.

...just a 1990 gt liftback with a jdm 185 motor swap. No mods.

oh I meen... at stock boost I went 15.30s but I had a exhaust on the regular top mount... but I meen honestly stock boost sucks.. Im sure once you go 14psi youll be alot faster! Go a couple more times.. And I meen honestly get a 20 dollar boost controller next time youll run alot better.

Wow 16.1 on a swaped celi? man thats SLOWNESS! :P couldn't even compete with the B18 Swapped Civics? Oh man....... gotta get some work done YOU NEED SOME DAMN TIRES YO! i'd assume that a swaped celi should be hitting 15.5 15.7 fairly easy. But whoa. that makes me think twice on swapping mine! i dunno maybe ill go BEAMS 3SGE for fun NA VVT-i VS VTEC!!!! or I-VTEC. :P never been a fan of VTEC cause so many people got em. :P

I think you should just buy a honda.

OP: Your first mistake, was setting a goal like that, better to just run and then and go from there. Up the boost, and work on your launches, and 14's should be pretty easy. A upped boost swapped celi should run 14's if driven well. Thats 3-4 seconds faster then a stock GTS so who can complain?

correct!

Honestly the car does nothing with just a swap... stock boost it is not real fast... plus if you havent really been to the drag strip much your not going to run your best times your first time there.. it takes practice.

but your best bet is to go front mount/exhaust/downpipe.... if you can afford it.. but if you want to improve real quick just buy a boost controller it should get you into the low 15s/high 14s....

Yes I figured that out. I figure 16.1 will be my starting point. Under those circumstances its only going to get better from there. I will be going back to the track in the next few months and I will set some goals to get some things done the car. Most likely I will be keeping the car still stock but maybe just turn up the boost. Little upgrades like down pipe and put on a exhaust on there. I ran at the track with open dp. Primarily I gotta practice on launches, really hard to do that with a busted tach.(will try to fix soon.) I really don't get on the throttle during launches. If I get on the throttle its usually while I'm in motion. So most likely its lack of driving experience.

Yeah, too bad you trapped nearly 10mph slower than a stock gts considering you have more power and all.

No but really, your traps are way down. What transmission? You should at least be in the mid 90's.

i hate to say it... but something is really wrong with your car. 16s is what you normally see from a 5sfe.

you said your tach diding work and you were shifting by ear ? that would probably explain your slow times right there.

Hmm... That sounds abnormal man... I can run 15.1 @ 90 MPH +/- consistently w/ my 2ZZ (on a good cool night). But I agree with you though, you need to shed off that extra weight, lose the subs, get better tires and get that tach fixed. It's a great benchmark for your first run though.

Also, What track was it at and what were the conditions (ambient temperature, humidity, etc..)? That makes a difference too.

But I must give you my opinion -- our Celica's weren't designed for the 1320, so don't be too disappointed. Take it out to the twisties where it can really shine! :bigthumbu

15.1 !!!!!!! Vipmetal went 14.7 consistantly!!! Hes by far the best driver on ctech.

Like I said for the record, car was fully load in the trunk lol. I think the excessive weight, grade A shitty tires and no tach really screwed up my run. Hopefully there will be another track meet in the next few months where I'll have much better and much wider tires, tach operational and car fully emptied lol.

Actually, I only took my GT-S to the 1/4 mile track once. I did 5 runs. First run was 14.8. Second run was 14.9. Third and fourth runs I couldn't get it to go into 2nd gear and ran 15.1 and 15.2. All those runs were back to back.. I let the car cool down for about an hour then ran the 14.7. That was back in november of '04.

Yeah, definitely get that tach fixed. I think that is your #1 problem. Also you need to get rid of the extra weight. :)

you're running a stock exhaust ?

Exhaust, tires, mbc ... is what i would do... i would not do the mbc before the exhaust...

Thats something I've been considering, getting an exhaust. I ran it open dp. The dp isn't gutted so I will do that one of these weekends. What would be better open dp or 2.5" exhaust all the way back?

so, no tach to reference, and you were running open downpipe. that means that you were probably shifting at like 3-4k because of how loud the car is with an open downpipe. mystery solved.
