Finished making the egr blockoff plate and cap, figured I would throw some pics up. I'll get more when it's on if you want.

I know I read about it somewhere but what exactly does blocking off the EGR do?

? On older, high mileage cars, like mine, the egr can start to dump a lot of unwanted crap into your system. There is also much speculation as to whether or not it does anything else for you, but if it did it would be minimal. On newer cars they do actually help by extending gas mileage and so on. Strictly an emissions thing.

It also makes your car smell like oil and awesomeness. :hehe:

mines blocked off cuz i snapped it in some hard driving and my new header was made abit different and the new one didn't reach

How did you snap it off and what does it have to do with your header?

How's that?

My roomate did this on his car, but also took out the carcoal canister, which is probably what made it smell like that.

Hmmm, if you cap off everything correctly it shouldn't be like that. He should also remove the egr vsv, charcoal vtv should be capped, egr modulator removed, and throttle body vac outlets capped.

Eh, he blew it up last night anyways.... rod knock is always fun. :P

So right now we're trying to get the parts to put together an LS Vtec for him.

i dunno exactly, it was shortly after i put my struts and springs on, my buddy said they should be set for street, but no, the ride was rough, they were set at their hardest setting and i think the streets stressed the tube and snapped it i dunno. took me 2 weeks to figure out what was making that horrible exhaust noise, tried so sealer and all kinds of shit, ended up just blocking off the other half of the tube. not a true blockoff, but it stops the exhaust and gave me back the lost hp. The megan header had the inlet for the egr tube slightly off the original header spot, so i have to get an extension made eventually to fix it and put the new tube on

Your egr is connected to your header?

Azzazzyn

yes? is it not supposed to be?

R u talking about your oxygen sensor? EGR has vaccum hoses attatched to it, o2 sensor has wires on it.

Azzazzyn

lol i know what an o2 sensor looks like. I had to replace both my egr and o2 sensors are different times, guess i'll have to take pics to show what i'm talkin bout yo

normally, there are 2 spots on the header, the egr tube would run to the top and the o2 sensor to the lower one. The header i bought used, the guy before me had the lower plugged up cuz he had his egr blocked off and my tube was snapped so i never chenged it. you can see the bolt in the lower half of the 2nd pic. The wierd part is, the egr tube i got from nissan is about 2 feet too short which makes me wonder wtf is did wrong..

what did you guys do with the Gas Temp sensor ? did you put a resistor in place ?

grayscale

No gas temp sensor here. Do you have them on 6thgens?

If you'r doing a fill EGR blockoff, mind writing up a "how to?" I'm sure it would be stickey worthy & a lot of people namely myself don't have much of a clue about the vac lines.

I think I might do it this weekend if I have time. It's not a long writeup, just a matter of getting numerous pics so that everything is clear. I'll keep you posted.

Update: so far I've done a little over 500 miles with the egr/charcoal/vac system removed. I am getting 30-31 mpg on 93octane with a 300k mile+ 5sfe and manual trans. This is a slight improvement from from the previous 28-29 mpg I got before. More or less a 1.5 mpg gain.

that's not bad.

yes the 6th gen has a Exhaust Gas Temp sensor that throw codes if you remvoed the sistem and don't take care of the sensor ( I know because I have the code :D ) so I'd like to know what resistor to use to get rid of the sensor and codes all at once.

If you have a meter that can read ohms, you might be able to read the sensor with it and get a resistor to match it. Other than that I don't know. Try asking in some of the other forums and see what you get. Let me know.

I'll do the meter reading, I just don't have one at the moment so I asked in case someone knew, I'll get a meter this weekend and let you guys know for future references.

By the way, where does the egt sensor hook into in your system?

why don't you block off right AT the egr valve? whittle out a nice piece of hard rubber or something..

i blocked off mine when i put my header on, and took out the charcoal canister.

Not sure what you mean. Where would you put said piece of hard rubber?
