Ok so I've been wanting to race an RSX for a while now because I thought i could take one because honestly for 160hp they're pretty slow. Anyway I got behind a white RSX-S today and I decided what the hell I'll see what i can do with him. Well turns out it was an old friend from high school, we couldn't go from a stop cause we couldn't get lined up at a light. So we went from a roll from 50 to 130. He got a 2 car jump on me because he still had room in second whereas i had to start from 3rd. Anyway the 2 car gap only opened up to about 2 1/2, We went up a hill and traffic got heavier so I backed off. We caught up a couple stoplights later and he was pretty damn impressed especially after I told him I paid $1000 for the car. And yes i know our cars are limited to 120mph and when i bought the car in the summer it did cut fuel at 120 but this was on a slight downhill and it's 38 degrees today, the only thing I've changed since the summer is a new dizzy and plugs and wires and over to synthetic oil. We're going to run from a stop as soon as the local track opens in late april. As far as I'm concerned it was a kill $1000 12 year old car only losing 2 1/2 car lengths at 130 mph to a $27,000 2003 model. I'll keep my celi and my 26,000 bucks.

And yes what I did was reckless and stupid but it's a straight road and i stopped when the traffic got thick. Yes public roads are not the place for this kind of thing and we could have killed people. I dont' do this every day. For anyone wondering it was a 2003 RSX-S with the 6 speed AEM intake the only mod. And my GT is a 5speed with 140,000 miles all new ignition system and 2 1/4" from the flex pipe back to a magnaflow muffler, and a huge ass dent in the downpipe from something the previous owner did(need to fix that).

The 130mph is from his speedo mine was past 120 of course, keep in mind that i could have still been doing like 125, the difference between 125 and 130 wouldn't be visible unless we kept the pace up for about a mile or so. But i never hit the speed limiter like the car did when i bought it, i think it's because of the cold.

Sounds like you had a nice rush. Im surprised you went that fast. 120+ is way too fast for city streets. I dont think I'd ever go past 100 even in a highway. Nice job keeping up with that car.

Good stuff man. I messed with a RSX (not S) a couple of times and they're fun to play with. I did 40-110 against one on the highway once and I lost by about 1/2 a car. As for safety, it has a lot to do with visibility and road quality. I can't do too much around where I live because the roads are *horrible*!

Wow thats pretty good for a 5sfe. FYI The rsx type s don't have 160 hp, they are rated at 200hp. Wow for 27k that car is slow as balls. If you lost by 2 1/2 car lenghts, I could only imagine the kind of ownage I would bring with my new celica. This kid in a type s wants to race me, he thinks he'll beat the 3s lol. Just because his car has i/h/e some wheels and its dropped. LMAO. Good race for your 1000$ celica.

good work hanging with the rsx.

A 200hp RSX vs a 130hp Celica? Was he auto? Because honestly with equal drivers the type s would stomp all over the Celica IMO. Maybe you have some freak 5sfe or something was wrong with his driving or car, anyways good job.

My ST hit 120mph on the interstate a couple months ago :D

Sounds like fun man, but still scary.

Key word there would be on a roll. :hehe: Actually the 5sfe puts out a bit more torque then hp. Still not bad for a 5th gen with no major work on it.

not true, the rsx is slow, utterly slow for 200hp. drove one and it was slower than my na mr2. it needs better gearing (rsx) 6spd is no good for that car

yeah RSX's really arent that fast, the 160hp is pathetic for 160hp and the S isn't that great for 200hp, they just don't make the lowend torque. Apart from the K-series motors (the RSX-S namely) our 5sfe's will take almost any stock or lightly moded honda, unless it's turbo'd. I've taken a 91 accord 2 door with H22a from a stop twice, and all my car has is short ram intake, exhaust, and 15 degree BTDC timing, that's 5 degrees advance over stock, which i've been very happy with. Keep in mind that h22a was stock with no mods, my friend has an 89 2 door accord with H22a with all the boltons and he can kill my celi. My first civic hatch i swapped a b16a into and the celica would kill it, my crx I built a d-series for with 12:1 compression pistons and port and polished head with an ISKY valve train; and the celica would probably have taken it too. But now that both of those cars are wrecked I cant say for sure untill i get the celi to the track this spring.

yeah racing from a roll kinda sucks, the 5sfe is kinda hard to launch though from a stop. It likes to bog down, feathering the clutch helps but it will wear that sucker down, I'm gona need to put a new one in over the summer, when i replace my synchro's I guess.

For those that say RSX-S is slow..

Im just going to say lame.

It is a quick car, it constistently pulls better numbers than a 7th gen GTS.

In the real world a 5th gen GT/GTS will not come close to a 7th gen GTS. Let alone an RSX-S.

I understand you had some fun with a buddy and it wasnt really a staged race with favorable conditions to make a comparison from but when you say you kept up, its most likely cause he dont know how to drive his car, or he was afraid to shift really high, or he was toying with you. I have raced one stock for stock in my MR2 Turbo and he was RIGHT there.. I was up by like a fender.

Zero to 60 mph: 6.2 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 16.6 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.9 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 14.9 sec @ 95 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 136 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 181 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.86 g
EPA fuel economy, city driving: 23 mpg
C/D-observed fuel economy: 22 mpg

Im going to say that this was a drivers race, and that you are a WAY better driver then this RSX-S. This car really is out of a nearly stock 5s's league, and by no means should be compared to a 5s.

I went with one on a roll, and barely barely beat him.... grant it he was modded and my clutch was slipping.... But there still "quick" cars.

Glad you were safe!

I raced a friend who has a 2001 GTS 6-spd w/AEM Intake. I was using nitrous, plus I have several mods, and from a roll, I would pull him by 1/2 a car, but he would beat me by 1/2 car from a stop (can't spray during launch, so I have to turn it on when I shift to 2d). So to say you beat a RSX-S in a "basicly stock" 5SFE is far-fetched and means one of 2 things...the guy was in 6th gear the whole time or it's total BS.

i love these silly threads, good job on pawning a guy who doesnt know how to drive his car that is teh coolness
are u sure a 5s is fast than a b16 hatch swap. maybe it feels faster bc it has more torque.

i dunno though

you are giving the 5s-fe too much props, they tag along the 10 seconds mark from 0-60 in a manual (Car and driver did a 9.5 but they are always fater than most of the people).
a B16 honda will do a 0-60 in 7+ seconds and RSX-S can do it under 7.

Maybe your car has a beams 3s-ge and you don't know ? :thumbsdow

Ray I think it was more of a matter of the drivers contest. A 5s could probably keep 2 car lengths behind if it has a good driver and the rsx has a horrible driver. The conditions can vary alot.

I dont get the driver thing.

YOU SHIFT AT REDLINE AND REDLINE IT AGAIN..

lol.

I mean really. Drive it like you hate it. Its how it was meant to be driven.

My statement applies to a high revving engine like a GTS or an RSX/S... doesnt apply to everything.

Hey what if the rsx's drivers sucked so much that he missed a few gears and also what if it was just a regular rsx with type s badge :hehe: this thread blows.

Just as a reference mark... my b16a swapped crx runs a 13.4 1/4 mile. N/A, 12:1 je's, and a mod chip on stock ecu set to redline at 9.5K rpm. So yeah, I call bs too. It was definitely decided by poor driving skills from the rsx-s.

I say BS. It takes us a while to get to 120 mph... That... and my cousin drives a K20A2 powered Civic SI that reves to 9k... My MR2 (hardtop stripped model) which runs mid-high 15's gets handed by like 7-8 cars EASY...

Alright, the general consenus is that we believe you. You stuck with him. BUT that does not mean your car is as fast as his. He either A: lugged it in 6th gear with the AC on, B: felt really bad for you and let off a bit, or C: your car is running 12lbs of boost at the moment.
