Hi,
being fairly new to Celicas, I am not aware of all the variants.
I have a JDM gen 5 GTR and looking around the gallery there doesn't seem to be any GTR's
Is the GTR solely a JDM car or limited edition or is it the same as a GTS?
cheers

The GT-R has that rear steering stuff... nothing USDM for us. GTS is pretty much the highest class we have aside from the Alltrac/GT-Four. Basically it's got the same options and whatnot as the Alltrac minus the 3SGTE or AWD.

Its a solely a JDM car sold in the UK as grey import. Its the same as the GT-i 16 but with 4 wheel steering

It's not that flash, you get a couple of buttons in the cabin to play with it, and 40 KG of extra stuff.

Theres one in a wreckers not far from here I can grab some pics of if you're really keen?

From what i've heard the Gt-r is actually a special edition Japan only to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Celica. It has the 3s-ge making around 170 bhp in it and the before mentioned 4 wheel steering system. Next to the all trac this was the most premium model

Chassis code was st183 IIRC

^Correct. :)

Slightly off-topic... but do you play BF2? I got killed so many times last night by a guy on there with the handle of Melchior.... :P

GT-R's aren't only ST183's- they also came in ST182 flavour, although they seem to be rarer.

The St183 is the one with the 4WS, some have an "active sports" option too, which is dashboard switchable damper adjustment.

See? A perfect example of how toyota robs us Americans. They get a 170hp celica ann all we get (besides All-Trac) is 103 and 135hp celicas :(

170 is a little optimistic, i've seen them rated at about 165, but remember thats running on japanese pump gas- which is over 100 RON, the gas we have here in the UK is around 95 and the same engine is rated at 158 over here, pre catalyst.

Isnt it because of the emissions laws that the 3S got axed over in the states?

At least you guys get plenty of 5S bottom ends to choose from, cheap stroker kit if ever I saw one- we only got them in old camry's (a rare-ish car in the UK, never sold well)

We can import JDM cars, but it is a LOT of hassle and costs much more in the long run than modifying USDM versions.

We also drive on the other side of the road, leading to even more issues.

I gotta tell ya Dan, I've got the 3SGE (Gen 3) that's rated at 180 and it puts down 156fwhp which on a Mustang dyno is the proper ratio for about 195-200 crank HP or so... (exhaust, header + intake).

Thats really interesting. I had no clue that they did a 4-wheel steering on a Celica. Were there any more differences to these models?
