Doesn't it have something to do with the timing belt?

I believe it serves the same cause as the ST185 CS hood.

Yup, mini scoop for cooling the belt since the center one is now a vent in stead of a scoop on regular ST185.

so its to cool the timing belt. thanks does it only need cooling because of the heat from the turbo or the TMIC or both?

That, i'm not positive about. The main difference is that the cars that that style hood came on had a water to air intercooler, so the air flow coming in the main vent isn't quite as important, so that could possibly be correct. But, i don't think the turbo is real close to the timing belt.

I think it's just because the design of the vent on those hoods didn't have the same flow as the regular old style hoods that came on the ST185 with the air to air intercooler. I seem to recall reading somewhere that initial versions of the ST185RC didn't have that little intake hole, and they had issues, so they kinda just added it in as an afterthought, and it stuck through the next generation.

so what your saying is if you had a front mount you could have a different hood and it wouldnt be hurting anything?

More than likely, yep.

I'm not planning on doing any different hood on mine once i swap.

Just a CS bumper with a gnarly intercooler. :)

difference are that ST185 was a SCOOP cause its a TMIC that is A2A
ST205 is a VENT and its TMIC is w2A
and yes the lil bulge is for the timing belt
