Hi all,

I have been searching high and low for information on a certain part on the Gen 5, I am not sure if this part is on non-JDM gen 5's, but its on mine and I dont know what it does, or why it is there, maybe someone can enlighten me?

Its situated just underneath the door catch on both left and right sides of the body, the left side has a "L" on it and the Right has a "R" on it, its black, and oval in shape with a bar that sticks out, and is sping loaded, it moves when ever the door is closed and then returns to its normal postion when the door is opened, but i have no idea what it does, any one know?

Thanks in advance.

Is it possible for you to post pics ??? I looked at my usdm GT vert, but can't find what you describe, based on your description (or perhaps I'm misunderstanding.....) As the old saying goes, "a picture can speak a thousand words", yadda yadda yadda...Is it perhaps an add-on for an alarm sys or something ? sorry I'm of no help, here, but my 5th g does not have what you describe (dunno if my car being a convertible "changes" anything in the door/latch structure) . Good luck figuring it out

Hmmmmmmmm....this sounds too "easy," but could it be the switch for the door/interior lights to go on when door is opened ? Mine's different from that, but just guessing, here. Sounds like there is a difference from usdm and other market Celis .... sorry, man, hope someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

No that is just a sping loaded rubber plate, this is above all that, above the locking catch as well, its very similar to the interior light sensor, but its made from what i can see, a ABS plastic composit. I will try and get pics, thanks for your help anyway mate. ;)

this is what i managed to find on the internet, so the image is not the best, but if you look above the silver door latch/catch, there is a plastic device, any ideas?

Hmmmmmm....now that I know where you're talking 'bout, I looked at mine again, and all I have is a flat plastic "plug" in that area, but I can see the part you mean in the photos....I have no clue. Sorry, man - surely someone knows (maybe call Toyota parts dept and ask them to drill down and find the part and tell you what it's for....obviously, it's there. )
