Hey guys! Instead of searching my mind out, I figured Id get a yes or no answer out of asking quickly. Is there anyway of doing a six speed conversion on the 5th gen celicas by either throwing the guts from a newer celica in an MR2 tranni or if the newer tranni can be fabricated to the 3sgte block? I know, I know, its kind of dumb and not worth the time and money if Im looking for more power etc, but I just like the idea of shorter gears and having a 6 spd in my celica :hehe: So, please dont bash on my ideas, just throw me some thoughts if you have any. Appreciated! Thanks guys!!

Chris

When money is no object everything is possible

Very true.

But when it is an object, the answer to this question is.....no. There is no 6 speed transmission that will bolt in. I don't know what series transmission the zz block hooks up to (zz series I'd guess?), but I wouldn't think any of the internals will swap out.

Though as a side note, I did here about a 6 speed for alltracs being offered by TRD a while back. It was mentioned on these forums. Going price they mentioned was 20 grand though, so a bit prohibitive.

EDIT: Sorry, 30 grand

OK, a six speed tranny. Not a gappy as th S-53 or S-54 I take it and can hold what..... 450 lb-ft? A fully sequential gear box is available through TRD for the all-trac for $30,000. They only have a few left and they are in Japan.

The 6spd out of a 7th gen can be used on a 4AGE using the original C56 bellhousing or so I have read

The blacktop 4AGE came with a FWD 6-spd transmission.

Some of them did. A lot of the blacktops didn't come with the C56 6spds

I head about a guy that built a 7agze and added a 6 speed from a g6 Corrolla.
I will look for it too. I have also been thinking about a 6 speed for my st :)

Thanks david! If you find anything out, let me know, that would be great! And I swear someone posted that the celica guts will fit in the MR2 tranni, IM gonna search for that. Thanks.

Isn't the 6-spd called the C60?

There are a couple of at.net members with 6-speeds. A euro company used to make them for wrc for ~ 5,000usd.

Is that the dog box that Pat has. what company makes them?

I never knew the name of the company. The person who was supposed to inform me of rally part vendors flaked out on me. I hear pat has one, and Alcon had one at some point.

probably manufactured by TTE IE: Euro TRD.

See, i don't see the need for a six speed. i would be happy with a lowered geared 5th gear so that my RPM's aren't so high on the highway and i can keep up with other "spirited" drivers in corvettes and so forth....

I wish I had a shorter gear ratio 2-4 but a longer 5th gear. That'd be nice...

Xtrac is the manufacturer of the sequential 6 speed used in the WRC. Problem is each piece costs around USD 135.000

I would call BS on a $135,000. Maybe $35k

If so, 35k is still alotta money

35k wow

yeah, but then again, remember what the budgets of those WRC teams were. they would strip and rebuild the car constantly.

Xtrac used to have their prices up, last time I looked it was $135K... I dont have any need to BS anyone around here

im sorry, i wasn't trying to offend you. but you have to think about it. $135k will buy you a lightly used ferrari or porche carrera, where you would have to be insane to spend that much on just a transmision....

Pat Chinshu is using a stock St185 tranny as far as I know. (Possibly an ST205 box ? )
I got a ride in it. No need for 6spds, the 5spds are fast enough.

Unless he upgraded After Kansas ?
He rarely post his upgrades.

I know i remember that pat said that he had a six speed dox bog that was geared for ralling (top of the six gear was around 120)

I don't know what he did with it...

Is Pat Chinshue still about on at.net? His 185 is still alive?

I cant remember if the 185 rally cars used 6sp or 5sp boxes but they were:
- Xtrac
- incompatible with all the rest of the standard 185 transmission
- circa 30k

Quaiffe quoted a guy in the GT4oc for making a 6 speed set of internals, but it was in the region of 30k. Fensport have a straight cut 5 speed gearset available but there is very little info available regarding it.

C-One make a shortened gearset for the GT4 box with 5 speeds and top whack of around 120mph iirc, very much rally orientated.
