whats a good price to buy one of these with 35k on it? is there any way to tell that its from a ST205 from the outside?

so, lets just say that i get the one that im looking at, what should i replace/rebuild, if anything, to make it like new again. its JDM, so it probably has a more stop and go wear.

I'm serious, but the deal im getting seems too good to be true....

ST205 trans has no FWD/AWD lever on the T case.

I dunno.
I think they normally go for $4-500.
Personally, I wouldn't pay that much.
I doubt they're any better than the 92/93 trans.

As for replace/rebuild.
Axle seals?
Prop shaft seal?
They should be pretty tough, just like the other ones.....

thanks. thats the same response i got on alltrac.net

they're a little different than 92-93's i belive. The guy is selling it to me for $500 shipped which is good. I'll have to take it too a good tranny shop and have them replace the seals. i really don't want to ever have to mess with it in the next ten years, so i want it done right the first time.

If I remember the ST205 is set up with more torque going to the rear wheels and that = good.

You mean a different front/rear bias?

I was under the impression all 3 versions were 50/50.

Could be wrong though.

Well I thought I heard the 205 had a great rear bias compared to the ST185/165... I could be wrong but that's what I remember.

Good Lord man.
IMO, that's WAY more than you should be paying....
I know it's a ST205 trans, but.......
What on it is worth $3-400 more than a 92/93 trans?

I think $500 for a good tranny shipped is a good price, especially since my syncros are going out and its getting harder to shift into second and third. plus 205's had slightly longer ratios in 3rd and 4th. now, i just need to get a RC tranny's final drive to swap in there. maybe i can convince my buddy that has one to trade me.

Why the RC final drive?
It is longer....

If you do, you have to swap the output shaft [the gears will have to be removed, and the ones from the 205 trans installed], oil pump gear, and final drive gear.

If you bud doesn't want to trade, I have few RC trans......

yeah, its longer. the stock final drive in EVERY alltrac tranny is 4.285 except a true RC tranny. they have a 3.993 final drive, which will make every gear a bit longer.

Longer gears = lower RPMs on the highway and a higher top speed (since the only thing limiting our top speed is power and the rev limiter in 5th)

if you have a RC output shaft, oil pump gear, and final drive gear that you are willing to sell, i'll probably pick them up, but i have to get the 205 tranny first.

so, how much would you want for those three things? would i need anything else to swap out the final drive gear?
