Especially if you tried to back up ANYWHERE... never driven a Exige... only the Elise and that wasn't great to try to look out the back...

That is what mirrors are for. Try backing a 53' trailer blind around a 90* bend with only your mirrors. It is second nature to me. I laugh at folks who have to turn around to back up. :hehe:

KoreanJoey
11-07-2006, 09:28 AM
Um... but an Exige is a bit more delicate than a 53' trailer... what it hits, not it, would survive the impact. And yes mirrors are nice but come on... look how small the mirrors are on an Exige. Not really comparable to huge ass trailer mirrors. I've never driven a 53' trailer but I have driven large box vans and at least they have the big mirrors... Exige, not so much.

How is it so bad elektra. It is one of the best handling cars out there. I just dont see where you are coming from. Maybe the styling isnt for you but basically everything is designed with some kind of performance enhancement in mind.

I'm refering to the shitty look of that car from a design perspective, not it's performance, which i'm sure is outstanding, but I don't care to look into it.

I never claimed my car was awesome. For the money I think my car (and all 5th gens) have an outstanding, unique design.

That car has this scrunched up stubby feel to it to that ruins all the great characteristics it's designers stole from previous exotics. It's like they tried to mini-ize a great car and the result was a car with terrible proportions (which is what really makes me want to kill myself).

And i certainly was not insulting the MR-2 in your pic burnyd, which displays one of my favorite designs.

And no, an SW20 is not better than this Lotus. Not even close.

a Mint $14K SW20 with $36k in mods is better than this $50k Go Kart, thats my opinion and im sticking to it.

Dude, if it was a Go-kart, it wouldn't be street legal. Oh wait, i forgot, its not cool since it doesnt weigh 4000000Ilbs and have a mighty "V8" in it. That "go-kart" would work the shit outta most cars on a circut.
You said SW20>Elise, yet you didn't even know what engine the damned thing had? :wtf:

IMHO, a sw20 and elise are pretty close, but i think i like the mr2s alittle more.

I like SW20s but I still stand by what I said. The structure of the Elise and Exige is light years above the MR2.

go check one out in person.... go drive one.. you will nut yourself. Honestly its one of the best designed cars I have ever seen... and there fast too..... for the price for a car like that... I meen you can consider it an exotic.... you cant really go wrong... But there awesome no lie. Everyone has there own opinion yes.. but why be so negative about such a cool car.

agreed.. if someone wanted to trade my car in for a exige/elise I wouldnt even have to think twice about it. But I wish it was a 3sgte based car.

Remember guys this is the Exige S... 2ZZ + Supercharger + <2000LBS Car = The Sex. And it really doesn't 2K you put 36K into an SW20 it'll still never have the cornering capability of the Exige because well... it's too heavy and the Exige is a complete monoque chassis capable of handling substantially more power. There is actually a company that brought over the old Elise (pre-toyota motor) and put in an ITR B18 and turboed it... those fuckers look (never seen one in person so of course I haven't driven one) damn fast.

I know nothing about MR2s but I could bet money that with $36k an MR2 or even my Trans Am could out perform a stock $50k Exige in a auto-X event with an equal driver.

burnyd what kind of suspension components do they make for the MR2?

Well, I like the MR2 - these two cars, the MR2 and the Elise are very much alike in terms of overall concept. They are just marketed towards different price brackets and thus, in order to fit that market - the execution of chassis build, suspension and body components and powerplant choice is affected. Each car does great at what it's intended purpose and pricepoint was. The way I look at it, the MR2 and Elise are born from the same concepts: mid engine, rear wheel drive cars with autocross and roadracing in mind.

Trans Am on the other hand, I beg to differ with your opinion. I think the MR2 and spyder can walk away from the TA. Can I ask how do you figure this from strictly what's on paper assuming drivers are the same? How heavy is the TA? Please inform and thanks.

Suuuuure but what you have to realize is that, that car is not ment to go down a straight line fast.. I meen Im sure it does go pretty fast. I cant really predict how fast... but mid engine + really really leightweight body + very powerful high reving super charged motor = hella fast. But if your talking about auto cross and handeling ... yah sure you toss that much money into a mr2 then Im pretty sure you would have something that would handle vey very very very very well. But if you are talking about a straight line... if you handed me about... around 15k and said make my mr2 run 9s... I could prolly do it :D.

as far as suspension there are some really really good coilovers avaible for a mr2 as well as camber kits brushing sway bars strut towers all that fun stuff. But Honestly The most I can see someone spening on the suspesion of a mr2 is a little under 5 grand at most. But you can make anything do anything just with the right amount of green :D

You bet man, Rover = garbage...

But back to the original subject of getting an MR2 to handle like an Elise/Exige, just isn't going to happen... because simply, weight, again...

You're not going to get an MR2 to weight less than 2000LBS, not with keeping it an MR2 and if you do somehow manage that I doubt it'll be streetable/street legal.
