Haha...At first glance you'r thinking "Why THANK GOD." Well i meet a few of you a few years back at the chicago meet and at that point my car was in great, or so i thought, condition. Since i've had electrical problems, Tranny, Drivetrain, basically EVERYTHING. I made a post a few weeks back asking $500 for the rebuilt engine....Welllll

I got a call from the Police Department saying they've towed my car to shelter as someone hadn't seen it while driving up the street and completly smashed right into it. They nailed the front end and sent the car right into the telephone pole right behind it.

(The following info. came from someone above the officer who dealt with the situation. He may have left a few details out)
This is where it gets good...

The cops pulled this guy over several blocks away..He was attempting a hit and run and i have no idea how his car kept goin after hearing the condition of mine from the towing company.

So the cops have him in custody and return to my car to see the damage or something along the lines. They get to my car and they find that some kid took a shattered window as an oppurtunity to jump in and steal my cd player. Yep, Arrested him to!

So i guess the person who nailed my car has insurance and i'll be hearing the exact story from the officer who dealt with everything in about an hour here!

You can bet i'll have pictures of this when i ride back to town sometime this weekend. I hope everything above is how it really happened but i'll post corrections when i get the real story at 11p.m.

I've been hoping something like that to would happen to my Celica lately, it's one of the reasons I moved up to a $200 deductible this year.

What do you want?

The tC is more reliable, has more aftermarket support, is cheap to repair, and is slow.

The 325is is less reliable (BMW is still pretty reliable, but no Toyota), more expensive to repair, and is fun.

The tC is a nice DD for cruising around town, but if you want to get into performance mods it's a bad choice: there's a reason there are so many riced out tC's being sold to raise money for Supras. The 325is will be infinitely more fun, but you should think about the cost of repairs.

EDIT: A '95 325si might actually be cheaper to work on since you don't have to deal with all the electronics (more stuff you can do yourself) and a crowded engine bay (less hours for the mechanic). Just a thought.

Remember never accept the first offer.

I vote for the BMW if you can swing it. It'll be cheaper to buy, there is a good aftermarket out for it, it'll be balls faster than the TC, a nicer car in general, and the money that you save getting that instead of the tC, you can put towards repairs, which really, the parts aren't any more expensive than Toyota, and they aren't any harder to work on than most Toyotas, either.

Plus, BMW inline 6s make me hard.

Settlement? I've never dealt with a situation like this. I thought there insurance just figured the value of the car based off of model, year, and miles.. But your saying they will make an offer?

Ya the reason i wanted the tC is i had REALLY bad experience with my celica and ended up repairing it quite alot. I've heard from a few people that BMW's will last a very long time but with it at 150k in miles already how much further could it go?

ANNND with the ongoing P.D. issue i still haven't been able to get in contact with any of the officers who were at the scene but hopefully i'll have a bit more luck when i call tonight

Dude, i know you got a bad celica in the batch, but look into a 7th gen, if not, i still say BMW.

KoreanJoey

Yes they will offer you an amount of money and you come back with "But I've spent so much maintaining the car ECT" and they'll come back with another offer.

BMW I-6's are nearly as bulletproof as the 22RE. They last at least 200k if a regular maintenance schedule is followed.

Welp i found a 1999 VW Passat GSL with a newer Audi A4 turbo'd engine (53k on engine and turbo) for just around 8k that i think im gonna take a seriouse look at. 4-doors have never really attracted me but these cars' a very nice! I'll be getting the new rear tire on the cbr tomorrow and off it is to see the ole' celica. Should have pictures by late friday or so...

I'd avoid VW's of that era, they're legendary for having shitty electronics. Not quite Jaguar bad, but pretty bad.

join the honda group :D i have an accord with a soon-to-be built motor... get a gen 2 integra or eg hatch.. fun lil cars to drive, and easy to fix up... and yes, stay away from the VW... too many problems

as for the settlement, i was given an offer first... u can accept it, or deny it and ask for more (with the right reasons of course, like maybe u just overhauled the motor with $3000 worth of parts)

Lol your lucky! The lady that rear ended me had no insurance! I had to take her to small claims court and she still hasnt paid me a penny! I might have to have the court garnish wages! She did 2250 worth of damage...

I can probable fix the car for 400 bucks but finding parts suck..

Anyways milk it for all you can, tell him everything you have done and say the labor was nuts. Even though you did it yourself they cant prove it... If you have reciepts for the parts tell them that.

And in all honesty toyota is the most reliable car company period. Look at the stats and prove me wrong.

Let me just say i havent really dont anything to my car and it has 256k, just maintence...

I'm going to have the engine rebuilt in the next year just because i have coke build up i think. Not to mention i kinda want to run full sythnetic and i need to replace all the gaskets to do so...

Afro-Wolff

Alright so heres the damage!!! Their insurance (Allied) game up with $3,200 for the reinbursement but i talked them up to $3,600 since i was out of transporation for two weeks, (like i've drove the damn thing in the last 8 months anyway..HA), and for the rebuilt engine I had installed. I don't know if i could have got a bit more out of them but at this point i'll consider myself damn lucky and given a blessing.

So whataya think...New home page picture of the month??

How much to buy it back?

Afro-Wolff
11-21-2006, 07:27 PM
Not completly sure. I've had it up to...well...^ There with the vehicle tho. I wouldn't even be interested in parting it out. Unless someone could actually find some use for the vehicle in that condition. If that's the case i could ask

Afro-Wolff
11-21-2006, 07:29 PM
I do believe this will be the next vehicle! 53k miles on a 2003 A4 turbo engine in it.
