I'm thinking maybe A3...

Numbers are spot on for that weird 2.0fsi turbo engine.

The STi is 2.5 litre here. The Regular WRX is 2.0.

Mazdaspeed 6 is more around 276 crank hp i think...

V-dauuubbbb in daz houze...

My guess for the A3 or something with the Audi 2.0fsi Turbo engine stands.

Am I the only one who is baffled at how VW is releasing 3 door hatches that weigh in excess of 3000 lbs?

It was the first car both my wife and I could agree on. We drove a Cobalt SS Supercharged, A couple mkIV Jettas, Mazda3 SP23, Saab 9-3 Linear, and then we spotted this Jetta. It hadn't even been detailed yet.

It had the 2.0T (I wouldn't be able to put up with the 2.5), a six speed manual (all the others were 5 speeds except the SS I think), and my wife loved the heated seats (she's not used to Minnesota in the winter). And since it hadn't even been on the lot yet, we got it for 19,900 (KBB TRADE IN value was 20,500).

It is kinda heavy, and the all-season tires leave a lot to be desired in the handling department, but the engine is amazing. It makes the car feel much faster than it is. It even feels more powerful than the 3.5 in my Malibu. Climbing a hill at 30mph in fourth...no problem. Passing in sixth...easy. You never have to worry about being in the wrong gear because there is always so much torque available.

I do really like the A3, but my wife doesn't like hatch/wagons (thinks they are too "soccer mom." As if any soccer mom nowadays would step out of her Yukon Denali to drive a real car  ). Also, they are still a bit spendy...

Anyhow, some proper tires once summer comes back around should really transform the car. Maybe some GLI springs and shocks...

How many cars are there nowadays that weigh LESS than 3000 lbs?

Not many. Anything much larger than a Fit, or Versa, or Yaris, or Aveo will be running in that area, and the VWs tend to have bigger engines and more luxury and safety features.

It does feel weird, but that's the way trends are going...

Thing is, the GTI somehow manages to weigh more than a WRX or a Mazdaspeed3, which is quite an achievement for a 3-door hatch.

Yeah, it is definitely heavy. And it's only a matter of time before the rest catch up...of course, by then the GTI will probably be approaching 3500 lbs... On the plus side, your ass doesn't get cold.

I would have loved an Impreza, especially once it starts snowing. But all the one in my price range, with the milage and features my wife wanted, had that ugly front end they used to replace the bug eyes. It's just too ugly for me to drive. The current one's, though, are nice, but still a bit too spendy and my wife isn't as fond of their look.
