Is it odd for my ST to have 14" wheels? All the tire sites I look at and use there "find your tire" thing it shows up with 13" wheels....

14" is the stock size for the ST
look on tirerack they have a very large selection
im probably going to get a set of Kumho ASX all season tires
cheap and good performance, what more could you want

Oh my gawd 30 series on 17's? Are you a mad man? I'm iffy using my 40 series on my 17's. I'll be getting 40 series for the 18's I get in the spring. 30 is way too rubber band-ish.

All season or summer? Also what kind of driving do you do? Any autocross? Are you concerned with tread life?

Go to the Brake, Tires and Suspension section of the forum.

The ST came with 13" tires stock in `90. That is what Chaos came with.

The STX probably got 14" wheels and tires as a dealer option.

I run 17" wheels and tires on Chaos now. When I get her a new set of tires and wheels, I don't think I will go larger than 16". Not for a DD.

Find a nice set of wheels you like in 16x7 in a bolt pattern that will fit. I suggest a tire size of 205/50/16. I am not sure about offset, I think I have 35 or 40mm, I bought my Enkeis second hand.

I am fond of Toyo Proxes tires. They have good tread life and offer plenty of grip. I have gone through two sets in 5 years, abusing the hell out of them. I am on Hancook Ventus right now, as they were more readily available. I am not impressed with them.

All season, lots of mountain roads, no,not really

heres why I gotta get tires, I, for some reason unknown to me, have a big bump/knot on the sidewall of my passenger front tire, the car doesnt need all new tires as the front ones are very new, Im probably just gonna pick up a cheap tire for the passenger side and wait till I get new wheels to buy tires.

whats wrong with 30? I have 30 on the All-Trac and 30 in the rear of the T/A and on the front I have 35. I see no problem with them.

Try this, Use your stock size on the one side and then punch in the size you like to try on the other.http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
A good alternate size from what I have found is 195 55 15, 205 45 16 would be the most accurate +2 size though (for Murg ;))
My ST came with 185 65 14's stock and I run 215 40 16's for daily driving (Toyo Proxies TS-1) the tires feel like glue but wear slowly.

Can't go wrong with the Falken Ziex 512: http://www.edgeracing.com/tire/916/ Great tire, especially for the price.
