So a couple of my friends and I decided to do a 3-way highway race. Before we drove out to the highway, we were discussing how we thought the race would go... and we all agreed that it would probably in the air between the cobalt and mr2 on top end.. and my alltrac would fall behind. But I'll let you see the videos to find out what happened. We did two pulls, both from a 40mph kick. We stopped around 110mph on the first run and 135mph on the second run. Here are some specs on the cars..

'06 Cobalt SS S/C: Stage IV Intense motorsports kit (2.5" pulley, 60lb/hr injectors, ecu reflash, etc), ZZP Header, ZZP 3" non-cat downpipe, stock 2.5" exhaust with magnaflow muffler. Dynoed 275whp on mustang dyno before Header and DP. 20.5psi

'91 MR2 Turbo: Greddy TD06SH 20G turbo kit, 2.25" exhaust :(, 14psi.

'92 Celica All-Trac: Greddy TD06L2 20G turbo kit, 14psi.

Videos were taken from inside the Cobalt.

Here is a video from the drag strip of my All-Trac and the MR2 Turbo. I ran a 8.12 and he got an 8.5 I believe.

He has to shift slow.. he has syncros going out. He is still on the s53 tranny.. it's an n/a mr2 with a swap.

Those first two videos were a waste of time, auto focus is not your friend. Glad the Cobalt went down tho :)

It's at a 1/8th mile track. Our local track is actually 50ft short, so the time is a little faster and trap slower. I ran 8.12 @ 79mph on that run. At a normal track it would be around 8.3-4 @ 82-3

Nice times, on the 8th my Trans Am did an 8.9 @ 86mph but with a 2.2 60' with the stock 245s. Im going to the 1/4 track the 28th. After the All-Trac is back up and running I will take it to the Trac to see what it does. Nice times!

The MR2 never saw the s53 tranny, only the s54. So even with an n/a -> turbo swap, the tranny should be fine. Granted, when he did the swap, he probably should have rebuilt the tranny, and found a nice clutch, but hey, some people are on a budget.

No... no its not fine... Lets be serious here. That trans is the absolute worse... especially for a car like a mr2... Needs to hold boost for longer with taller gearing. I gaurentee with someone who knows how to drag/drive they would blow up a s trans in a heart beat.

I would know if I did some dyno pulls.. but since I've never been on a dyno, I can't give you any numbers.

I have a built bottom end with 9.0:1 compression wiseco pistons and a 1mm hks HG... so the compression is a little higher than normal. 14psi on a Greddy TD06L2 20G.. I would guess around 230whp? I'm still on the stock fuel system, ecu, and airbox.

Well I don't believe that Toyota's intent wasn't straight line speed when they built the MR2. I do see what your sayin, 100%, but the deuce is meant for twisties

right..... and the s trans is geared really high... not exactly ment to go around bends... its geared way too low... Plus its not ment for a turbo motor in a straight line... as soon as you open the throttle a little it wants you to shift.

woopos I ment low.. .sorry.

S5x = low gearing... good for economy / Na motor.
E153 = Really really tall gears... good for a boosted car / road race / auto cross

If you have each side by side you can notice the size of the gearbox + Weight of box transmissions.

lol, its cool, that just freaked me out =) Yeah I get what your saying, but I think that having a lower geared tranny would be better for auto-x, hill climbs, etc. *to an extent* Am I incorrect? I'm fine with bein wrong, I just don't wanna spout out incorrect info =)

no not really... for example in auto cross... I could go into a corner at lik 5-6k.... hold it for a little bit.... come out to a straight away then hammer the gas really hard.... still shift at redline....

With there being little gear to climb in auto cross if I has a s trans I wouldbe constantly shifting... same thing with hill climb... I would want a Higher geared trans there...

But anyway I blew up 3 of those trans with my old celica on a 3sgte over the course of like 8 month?

True, that makes sense. What tranny do you use now? I assume the e153? I'm not sure if celica's use the same tranny's as us deuce guys, but that would be neat =)

Well on a fwd celica you can swap a e153... its just not that easy. Before I had my mr2 I have now I had a 6gc I swapped... but yes I have a e153 in my mr2.
