It seem like there is not much interest or input into the classic celica scene.

:wavec:

I'm usually around, but I don't post much. I really don't post here about my 1st gen really because this site is not too into the R series engines or A series chassis.

Also, I notice you have an ra28 LT. Where you from? Land down under?

And don't worry about the third gen owners that are all jealous of our 1st gens, they're just true classic owner wannabes :hehe: J/K

Any third gen owners what to enlighten me as to how hard a timing chain change is on a 22-RE? I'm looking at a 1985 RA65 done just over 200,000km.

not hard at all

well u can get away with pulling the cover off w/o damaging the headgasket, but its like a 50/50 shot but u gotta pull the oil pan

but normally the right way includes pulling the head but the engine is as hard to work on as a briggs

In reply to my post yes i live down under, where there are plenty of 1st gens and plenty of R series motors and "smiley" bumpers.
I have an 18rgu in my shed at the moment getting the full rebuild and also taking delivery if an 18rg soon. I have cruised many toyota forums thruout the world and none seem as active as our australian sites.
here is a link to some photos of my Ra28 http://img138.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=img138/2324/1152945751abc.smil
I hope it works. You guys got the Gts and we got the base model LT,but we try very hard to upspec them to JDM models. with a few added parts. I have wrecked 3 RA28s in the process of getting this one to look reasonable.Cosequetially I have a shed full of spares including your much loved but rare bumpers.as a mechanic for over 30 years and a toyota fan I have gathered quite a lot of information on the early celicas and used most of it to get this one up to grade.
