Ok all, post up your MPG and ideas on how to increase it.

In the ST I am getting on the average 33 mpg.

I have found that cruising at 70 mph vrs 75 mph is a difference of 6 mpg
Yes, if I cruise at 75 mph I only get and average of 27 mpg.

My drive to and from work is right at 30 miles one way and about 25 of that is straight shot Autobahn.
Do you guys want me to test anything? Like the difference between 60mph vrs 65 or anything?
In the next week or so I will be changing the oil and I will see if that improves anything also.
Remember this is the 1.6 so there will be a big difference with the 5s, 4a, and 3s engines.

18-20mpg city with a stock 5sfe

I got 21mpg mileage driving to an autocross (35 miles) on the highway, then doing 12 runs with car idleing in between runs.

You should try to see how much of a difference there is with the a/c compressor. Like if you get less mileage from having your compressor on all the time vs just having it on when you're going downhill, or in upper gears.

33MPG around town 40+MPG just hitting the highway and I usually get around 38-40MPG driving as usual... and that's hard. :woot2: :woot: :happyrun: Gen 3 3SGE!

I usually average around 32-34mph a tank if it's not a track week. Almost all of my driving is highway to and from work. Not bad for a 5sfe.

its actually been proven that while driving on the highway (not city) that your MPG is actually BETTER with your ac on instead of your windows rolled down

I remember that mythbusters... but I wonder if it's much different for a more aerodynamic vehicle... NOT a big ass SUV, might still be worth a look see.

it is even better with the windows up and AC off :)

What is your highway speed?

That is why, no real sustained high speed. :)

Remember, US Gallons different to UK gallons.

I reckon on a run, I can get 25-28mpg.
Around town, high teens.
On a track, single figures.

5th gen 5sfe.....typically 24-25 mpg, of mixed city/hwy/back country roads driving (running a/c many times, running with the vert top down often - sometimes with the top down AND ac on.... ;) ).... Worst I've ever recorded has been 21.5 mpg, best has been probably around 28. Am sure I could get over 30 on the hwy w/ cruis on and windows up and ac off, as David in Germany mentioned. And keep your headlights lowered during the daylight.....I'd have to imagine the wind resistance from the pop-ups is measurable, for sure :(

I still average 34MPG. That is a mix of city/hwy.

I got through a about a tank a month.

The wife's car gets about 25MPG with her driving it, 19-21MPG with me driving it. She has a `96 Regal with a 3.1.

It depends on the car. In Motortrend (or Car & Driver, can't remember which) a guy ran the same test in 330i and at 65mph came up with a 1mpg improvement with the windows down over the A/C. Still, that's so little that on the highway you might as well use whichever you prefer and stop worrying about fuel economy. Or better yet, if you can, use neither.

I've got a stock GM 3.5L V6 rated at 202hp and 220lb/ft (I think). I generally get 26-27mpg (mostly city, some hwy) but get 31 or so when I go north to my parents' house (all hwy).

Probably the best way to improve fuel economy (and reduce pollution and congestion) is to make an effort to drive less. Plan your trips so you get all your chores done in one trip. Use notes so you don't forget stuff and have to make another trip. Walk or bike when you can. etc.

How could they not? I'm sure average world temps will go up at least 2.

So I took a freeway trip yesterday that I have taken before and burned a half a tank on. Yesterday I only burned a little over a quarter tank. Only difference? I never got out of 2nd gear all through denver. It was 1st, 2nd and coast for a long way, then back to a complete stop.

I've really worked on tracking mine.

Its about 24mpg in town, or less. And 30-32mpg on the highway, and I can't get any better.

well, i've got the basic exhaust and short-ram, and i took a very long trip across two states today. on my way out there before i left, i filled up, to the brim. drove 490 miles, filled up again, to the brim, as always. 12.65 gallons. averaged 38.774 mpg with 3 people in the car, no A/C, windows down, averaging 70mph~ or so. my car has the 5SFE. (90 gt 5-speed) that's my best tank yet. previous record was 34.612 with a stock car. i swapped out for a camry 5-speed (big difference IMO) and the speedo is accurate within +/- 1mph (as verified per GPS, varies by speed). I think the difference in FGR is what did it. i'm doing about 2500 rpm @ 65mph now.

i find it funny how our cars come with a 15.7 gallon tank, and the light comes on with about 3 gallons left in the tank. definately not used to that.

Just filled up, this tank has about 50-60 miles of averaging 125-130MPH and about 100 miles of 90-95 and some 70 mph driving (95% highway) MPG this week... 23 mpg..
This week will be all 65-70mph :)

Don't really now how all this works, but I do know that I get about 400-450km's worth of driving after every refill.

best so far is 310 miles on 11.9 gallons of gas, which is 26 mpg... all freeway, but 70% of the time is stop and go traffic going less than 30 mph

just changed a bunch of stuff in the last couple weeks... this week's mileage looks pretty good.... 270 miles with 1/4 tank to go!

btw, our tank capacity is 15.7 gallons rite? funny how the fuel gauge looks so empty after 12 gallons used and tht the fuel light comes on soo early... when my honda's fuel light comes on, i pretty much have abt 2 gallons left

I hope you're joking. I've read a test in Popular Mechanics and it had a negative effect on economy. Also, after a couple top speed runs parts started coming loose. They were lucky to catch it before it got sucked into the engine.

All it does is block airflow.
