View Full Version : GT and GT-S?

I was at work tonight when somebody came to me and offered me a 1990 Celica GT parts car. He was asking $500 at first. I told him that was much more than I can afford so he offered $300. He said that if I don't buy it then he's going to sell it to the junker. I'm going to call him on Monday and offer him $100 to take it off his hands.
Before I buy the car, my question is what kind of parts between the 90' Celica GT and GT-S are compatible. I'm talking engine, suspension, lights, brakes, and just about anything between the cars. Maybe I should ask what can't be shared between the two. I know the stereo is different, brakes, body...I just want to see if there are any more subtle things I'm not considering.

the only difference is the options and its a narrowbody. suspention is the same, engine is the same, lights are the same (tail lights are different if its a coupe), brakes should be the same, but yours more likely to have rear disks.

I don't think you'll find too much of a difference unless its a coupe.

Alright, that's what I thought. Thanks.

Narrow body? As apposed to a wide body? I don't get it. I know the 82-85 Celica had the sport package with wheel flares and tires etc.. and so was wider. I did not know that there were widebody and narrowbody Celicas in the 86-2000 year range. I thought it was all engine and options that distinguished the ST from the GT, from the GTS.

Any links to pics showing these differences?

Call me a NOOB....

I dont know about 4th gens but the 5th gens (90-93) differed from:

ST (basic no frills ride)
GT ( Upgraded could have all options the GTS had but its a Narrow body and you can get the GT in Coupe or in Hatch back)

GTS ( best of the best Celica if you didnt want to spend $28k-$30k on an All-Trac, only came in Widebody hatch back)

Could someone please show me the difference between WIDE BODY and NARROW BODY?

Every Celica I've seen looks like the next, either notchback or hatchback.

Thre's buldges in the fenders of the All trac and GTS.

I thought there was a difference in suspension also. Stiffer shocks maybe?

Suspension between a GT and the GTS are the same for 5th gens.

i herd the GTS handled a little better, but essentially it was a widebody GT with a badge change.

The funny thing is the GT could actually have more options and upgrades than a GTS.

The fenders and the rear quater panels have bulges around the wheel wells, you can fit a wider wheel/tire on a GT-S compared to a GT. Otherwise they are basically the same. Also 90-91 GT-S came with all disc brakes and 90-91 GT came with drums in the back. But everything is interchangeable.

I believe autoclimate control was not available for any GT models.
