He did bring up an interesting point about the GT-4: that it has all the options and such in a car that people don't really buy for that purpose. It probably would have been more logical had Toyota stripped down the GT-4 rather than load it up. ST205 is still t3h secks tho.

That Escort Cosworth wasn't too bad either tho... Ashame we miss out on so many great cars this side of the pond

Meh, I'll argue some points on that little episode. I respect Top Gear and all, but some of their points aren't all 100% true.

I drove a 94 Celica GTS a while ago, I'm standing at 6'4 1/4 and I had no troubles at all driving, sure the passengers in the back behind me would have no room, but who will truly sit back there anyways? Its not a family vehicle.

My second point is that of yes..it is loaded to the nuts, thats whats so great about it. Take a look at the 4th gen Celica...pretty simplistic interior, then in 90 when they released the 5th gen, HOLY DYNA! One of the nicest interiors that would combine class and sport compact all into one, its a gorgeous lux. sports car. Same with the 6th gen, they made it as clean and as lux. as possible so they did not have to sacrafice comfort for power.

Ask yourself this, what do you find more fun/comfortable to drive in:
92 240 SX with a tweed interior
or a 92 Celica GT-S with a cloth interior

I'd take the ST205 over the Ford anyday, and I'm not just saying that because I'm stuck to the Toyota family for life either.

:stupid: and what about reliability? I'd take Toyota over any american car any day of the week

But honestly the Cosworth is about as Ford as an RX7.

I'd take the 205 hands down. I think what sold him was just the price.

Sooo you mean it has high power output but will need a rebuild every 150,000 kms? :D

I think it was a pretty fair review, he does mention the 205 is better in a few things and he said its just as much fun to drive...but I think he's clearly biased towards the Cosworth. Not very suprising, Cosworth was/is a british company and he IS british...have you noticed in the latest episodes their bias toward aston just cause they're british?

very cool video though, i'm suprised i hadn't seen it before....now i wish someone could find video of Tiff testing a 165 or 185, cause well obviously Tiff > Clarkson :bigthumbu

Yeah, I'm in a 94 GT at 6'3 and I'm like "wtf is this dude talking about?"

Yeah, he even said he was biased not towards the ford, but against the toyota. As stated by dude, "I often looked forward to driving a toyota much the same as I look forward to going to the dentist" = LAME

It even manages to make the Escort look like a shrinking violet.... :wiggle:
Perhaps they dont want a civilized car..... :wtf:
In the past ive always looked forwared to a drive in a toyota, like i look forwared to a trip to the dentist. :madfawk:

I don't think its that they neccessary didn't want a civilized car, it's more that they think that it's too civilized. That it's missing the true intention of the car -- performance -- by weighing it down with extras i.e. System 10, power lumbar seats, etc etc etc. Which, like I said before, I agree with.

Ask yourself this: would not having some of the options that the AllTrac has really affect your love for the car? I know it wouldn't for me. Hell, I'd prolly want one even worse cause then it'd be a little faster.

Who buys a homologation model for its relability? If you're actually going to use it for what it's designed for, shit's going to break all the time, Toyota or not. :P

Yeah, but if its american its going to break first though less fun :D

Either way, I'd still rather have a GT4

The car was designed by Cosworth, which is a company that specializes in designing racing engines. Carlos Sainz won the Spanish Rally twice with the Ford Sierra Cosworth cars before moving to Toyota in '89... And eventually moved back to the Escort Cosworth to place 3rd in the WRC in the mid 90's... The Escort has a rally history just as rich as the Celica does.

I'm a big fan of the Ford RS200 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_RS200)-- mid-engine, AWD, and 250 bhp from a 1.8 L.
