Doc says we'll be getting the car back next week. Julie still wants to get it painted, Probably same color, theres some body rot starting. I think she'll be so happy to have it back , she won't want to let it go again. What an improvement !!! We'll be @ colts drive Sept. 30. for the meet.

 she...au contraire, mon frere.....Bradley is 100% JDM prime MAN! after all, he weighs almost 4000 lbs. :ugh:

he should be back for the meet :D we were going to go down and pick him up, but we're going to have him shipped back.

It should be ALOT less than 4k lbs....
A conv weighs less than a Alltrac, which is ~ 3300lbs.
A guy in another thread was saying he weighed his 92 cov and it was 3100 or 3200.....

I've seen such differing numbers for the weights on these 5th gens. We need conclusive numbers damnit! I've seen some people say the STs are ~2300-2400lbs, with toyotacelicaonline having it at 2645 or something.

I think that number is what the GT coupe is.... Mine weighed in a 2674 a couple months ago when i weighed it at a landfill. :P

 :wiggle: :wiggle:

x2 !!!!! For real...LOL ....am wondering, does "gross vehicle weight" mean the car as is (empty), or if the car theoretically had it's max amount of weight it could carry on-board ???.....Granted, it's the heaviest Celica, but it doesn't feel THAT heavy. But...what do I know ??? (I DO know that my wife's '05 Corolla "feels" a WHOLE LOT lighter.....if only I had had the balls to spring for the XRS instead of the S at the time.....test drove a leftover '06 XRS yesterday, 'twas great fun  )
....sorry for going off-topic a bit...

edit : nevermind....that is gross vehicle weight (3790), and that does indeed mean the max the car should weigh when loaded to it's max, which I seem to recall being around 700 lbs ( + or -) ....so it weighing in around 3000 sounds more realistic......still a porker, though ;)

I haven't opened it up totally, mostly because I'm waiting on one last little part, the tach adapter, so that I can tell what RPM I'm at. But it's definetly a worthy engine to swap, it's very quick and fun to drive.

I've been keeping track.

The engine cost $2750 full clip from Japan
shipping& customs $1450 [not including shipping it to Tweak's]
labor for swap $2000
unforseen $600 [ the axle boots were broken & tach adapter]

While bradley was @ southern car customs he got a total makeover

struts& springs, rotors& ss brake lines, new clutch, new exhaust $2600

In June I bought oz rims & pzero/nero pirelli tires $1600
Also new top $1100

Not done spending yet , still need body work . Bradley has cancer.

So how easy it to throw a turbo/supercharger setup on those. Do people usally go with the supercharger with the BEAMS engine?

KoreanJoey
09-19-2006, 05:05 PM
ok dude... chill out. Look at those cars and tell me how many miles they've gotten. Because I'll tell you right now they aren't making that horsepower for long. I could make 500hp out of my gen 3 with a turbo or nos but it isn't going to last. I can promise you that. I've BEEN on Newcelica and I've seen the post of people selling their turbo kits because it blew up the motors I'm also on 9th gen corolla forums and they have the same problem with the 2ZZ. The 2ZZ is just not the right motor for boost. It doesn't compare to a B16 or B18 because it doesn't come from the factory sleeved. Sorry to burst your bubble about the 2ZZ but it's the plain simple truth. Same thing w/ the boosted 5SFE history has shown that it isn't reliable, a couple of people have been able to work against the flow and have a reliable 5SFTE (pressure2) but it takes a lot to get there.

91 celica st
09-20-2006, 02:27 AM
^you just conradicted yourself, with the right setup you can boost just about anything. and your stating that it "blows up" just becuase of compression raito's, this isnt the day of the v-8 pushrod that ran on leaded gas and had to run less than a 9.0 comp ratio to turbo, things like variable valve timing, knock snesors, the ability to fine tune *gasp did i just say tune* fuel and timing make turboing high compression cars more than just a possibility

and just like you said its not a B16 or b18, im willing to bet the ratio of engines turboed to engines blown up is greator with B serties engines than zz series engines

and there are quite a few that have gone over 10,000 on that site, just like smaay always says, the 2zz is relativly new, and turboing it is relativly new...thinkm of how mnay ppl blew up 5sfe and D seires when they were frist experimenting

i have a supercharged 1zzfe thats got over 60,000 on it with NO prolblems whatsoever at 10psi, it all lies with how well you maintain your engine and how well its tuned

KoreanJoey
09-20-2006, 06:07 AM
You continue with your theory and I'll continue with mine, I've heard of more 2ZZs blowing up than ones that have lasted. Again it's against the usual flow and there are people that have spent the time to tune but you know what, they'll usually opt to get the lower compression piston because *gasp* IT'S A BETTER IDEA.

You've got a Supercharged 1ZZ... great for you dude, glad it's working great hope it runs for another 100,000 miles. But get off your high horse and getting all defensive and acting like I don't know shit about the 2ZZ.

how many poeple blew up 5sfes when they first started turboing them? it was designed in late 80's and mput out in early 90's yet no one really had successfully turboed a 5sfe untill about 2000

the 2zz-ge was develpoed in late 90's and put out in early 2000's, it is still a relativly new engine, and experimenting with it has to happen for kits to work right, so of course some are goign to blow up. and on newcelica there are WAAYYYY more poeple with successful kits than kits that have blown up

Nah, i wasn't miffed about being blown away... I should have known better to think that a 7th gen celica being driven by a dude in Indy would have been fast as hell. I don't even mess with Civics around here anymore. There's too many crazy stupid fast ones.

As for a site to see.... you have no idea. We started at about 60, and he roasted the tires through most of 3rd, and 4th gear hit, and he was just GONE. If i had to hedge my bets, he was making close to 400whp, and in a light ass car like that, it was amazing. Probably did 60-120 in the time that i do 0-60.

Ok Guys. Either get this back on topic of "BEAMS swap into '93 Convertable :) " Or start a new thread in FI about turboing ZZ engines and S series and whatever else you want to discuss. This thread was intended to show an update of a convertible celica w/ a Beams engine.

Enough with the going back and forth chatter.

Just got the car back. When we went to pick it up from the car carrier, Julie stalled it out @ the first light. I thought it was because she had gotten too bad to drive her car. [her als is getting worse]
Then I got to drive it & I stalled it out too. It's the new clutch & the high revving beams. We're both going to have to get use to it. The car is fast. It cruises @ 60mph @ 3k rpms and you feel like it's idling. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the light of day. :)

an new updates on the vert? new pics??

This car is my wife's baby. Last year after we found out she has ALS ,I asked if she wanted a new car. She wanted to transform her baby instead. I organized and oversaw the whole operation.

Shortly after we got the car back, Julie lost the ability to operate her baby. When I applied for a hc tag, the registry pull her lisence and registration. Now the celica is in my name.

I've been driving the car a lot lately. I put about 8k miles since January. I 'm really happy with the way this car handles. Plenty of power & still great on gas.Not much has changed since last year. All I 've really done is change the oil and gas him up every once & a while. There may be some pics frm the colt park meet. We were there last month. :brick:
