Alright well iam in the market for some new rims for the celi. I was looking for a set of Rota SubZeros but dammit they dont make 16x7 in 5x100.

Gunmetal/black/dark bronze is the color options.
5x100 is the offset.

Dont want something thats bling blow yah know? Looking for some 16" rims no bigger or smaller. Here are some pics of my car and the colour of it. Also a pic of the rota subzeros.

(Dont mind the wheel gap in the rear on the last couple pics. Was taken on a slant thus making it look like it was on bags.)

Current. 15" BBS rims.

5x100 is the offset.

Your bolt pattern is not that same as your offset.

Morwan

45mm is the stock offset, centerbore is 54.1 mm.

Some compatible rims:

Iam thinking 17" rims will look too big on the celica.

Could somebody post pics of 17" rims on celicas like ours :). lots and lots of pics would be great.

I just dont want any wheel rub or bumpy ride.

gram lights and motegi track lites come in variable sizes that you could even get in custom sizes. So you could get a 16 x 8" set up too.

Very nice rims indeed. But a little out of my price range. 500 a rim is a bit pricey. Would much rather get a pair of the Work rims i had picked up for my car if i wanted to drop 650 a rim.

Little cheaper please :)

Dont think it will for our applications, FWD and such.

Yeah... you should come out to the last Midnite Madness at IRP this season, it's going to be awesome. Maybe you'll get a ride in the insane Neon. :)

Grumpy, i like those rims that you have there...

Do they make them in a 17x8?

I believe that the ones that i posted come in 17x7, which should fit with no problems on your car, and you have a choice of 5 colors. Not too cheap though.

What do I think? Too big and too expensive. That's about twice what I paid for my Team Dynamics wheels in 15x7 size:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/sbcelicagt/Celica%20V6/Track%20Wheels/blackwheel2.jpg

I originally didn't like the black, but it's growing on me. The fact that it hides brake dust really well is a great selling point. :D

I'm now thinking I'll keep these as my street wheels and pick up the same wheels in their "High Powered Silver" color option for the track.

That said, if you have your heat set on 16" wheels, I kind of dig these:
http://www.edgeracing.com/wheel/1991/

My only concern is their durability so I probably wouldn't use them on the track.

GRUMPY514

They are nice rims just not in the color iam looking for.

still having doubts that 17s will be too blingy and big. Anthracite is another color that I would look at. Ill give those Flick rims a good look. Never heard of them though.

Trouble is a lot of 16" rims are 5x100

16x7's are 15 pounds, so not heavy. Same manufacture style as the slipstreams (cast). Maybe they are so cheap because everyone simply expects they'd be pep boy specials.

Coupla questions, then...

Are you lowered at all? Is there any time that they might possibly rub? Like... if springs fully compressed with a full lock on steering wheel?

And you said that was a +20 front, +32 rear?

GRUMPY514

Yes lowerd quiet a bit.

KYB GR2s, 32+ front, 20+ rear

Front wheel turned fully each way without rubbing. Take speedbumps carefully like always. Dont think it will be a problem.

Truth will be told on the test drive day. when all 4 wheels are on and riding.

fawk fawk fawk !

Well I went ahead and picked up the rims today and slapped them on. I LOVEEEE the look of them and really want to keep them...

Problem is that they are rubbing in the rear pretty bad. Going over bumps wile driving, little dips it rubs.

What to do now? I want to really keep the rims and hoping a set of new tires would help the rubbing (low pro).

I dont want to drop another 5-600 on a set of tires just to find out it still rubs. Would be a waste of money on the rims and tires.

So I really got to think of what to do. Will post pics tommarow.

GRUMPY514
07-28-2006, 02:26 AM
Also iam not sure if its rubbing from the width of the tire or the height.

Its hard to tell at night time so me and my brother are going to see tommarow. Does anyone else know of anybody with 17x8 or 16x8 rims on a ST celica? Lowerd ST celica?

This will fucking suck if I cant keep the rims.

Out of curiosity why the 16x8 size and not 16x7? I just got some Ikon Karv 16x7's 42mm offset with 215/45/16 tires and it hugs the road like it's on rails? I'm goint to either get the trd lowereing springs or the eibach sportlines (same thing) at 1.0 or 1.5- I can't imagine how well the car will corner then. Are you wanting the wheels to stick out more?

It should actully hug the road better having wider tires.

Dont think I will be keeping them sadly :( x8 really looks sick on our cars its just not all that dooable under the limitations I have (money)

I was even considering looking to save up for these exact wheels except new in 16x7 but they discontinued them over a year ago

Really bummed out....Will post pics tommarow before I give them back.

The width seems to be fine. Its rubbing in the rear on the very outer top most part right on the fender. If you look under the car you can see paint by the fender comming off a little. Its not rubbing 24'7 but we are thinking what if we got the fenders pulled like we planned on

Pulled or rolled. Making the fenders wider.

The rims look dead sexy to me. Very euroish. Still contemplating.

I ended up flattening the rear fender lip on each side to keep the fenders from chewing up my tires:

You may need to do the same, though hopefully you have the patience to do a less crappy job. Mine looks horrific.

Thanx mang :)

I love the look also.

Will be calling some places tommarow to see how much money it cost for a fender roll/pull which ever one it is that I need.

From what I was told it basically looks like a roll that goes under fender and a piece that attaches to wheel hub and it goes left to right pushing out the fender.

I think those tires look a little goofy from the rear on a fwd coupe body, but from all other sides, it looks damn sexy. Nice pick. Could you recap on make, model, size, and price of your new wheels. There was a lot of discussion, and I want to get it all straight. I want to go 16x8 or 16x9, but if my future holds big brakes, I may just go ahead and get my 17x9's out of the way.

Forgeline RS wheels.

16x8

He upgraded to a 13" or 14" brake kit and they wouldnt work out.

Still contemplating wether to keep them or not.

Keep them. Either roll your fenders, or get spacers that will work.

It'll do. :)

A spacer won't work. It will only make them stick out further.

GRUMPY514

its 20+ offset so a spacer will just make things worse. Hence the name "Spacer" which basically is a piece of metal pushing the wheel out further. I dont want to ride anymore spanish that I already am :) lol

Rolling the fenders/Pulling could work but is it really worth it? Damage the paint and what not?

Sorry BTW, they discountined the rim about 2-3 years ago.

Its a 2 Piece rim that in a 16 usally sells for around 450ish a rim new.

My mistake... for some reason i was thinking he already had spacers on there... slip of the mind thought the offset were spacer sizes he was running.

Anyways... i'd take that to a shop, see if they can tell you up front if rolling the fenders will fix the problem.

got a friend dropping by who knos more about all that stuff tommarow. Will see what shops we got around here locally. Dont want to drive 1000 miles with it rubbing like that on almost bald tires.

Murgatroy
07-29-2006, 04:14 PM
Roll the lip yourself. All it takes is a ballbat and a lot of patience. It you do it slow and take you time it won't screw up the paint.

Stick the bat between the tire and the fender and just rock it nack and forth, like a pry par, be very slow and gentle and it will fatten the lip out just a hair and stop the scrubbing.

After I smacked the guardrail with Chaos, her rear quarter got bashed in pretty harsh, if I make a left turn at speed she scrubs badly, with a passenger, it is ever worse. I had to roll her lip quite a bit to get it to stop. Of course, paint and bodywork as not a concern.

I think that looks damn good. I like the width, the rims however I am not a fan of, but that is all personal taste, they do match the car though. It does look like you have some camber issues in the rear though, possibly due to the lowering. But I have known ppl to run 225s on ST/GT coupes before.

GRUMPY514
07-29-2006, 04:46 PM
Question is will fender rolling fix the problem? I hope it will.

The outer edge of the tire is rubbing on the top of the fender, if you look under the fender you can see a little paint missing.

What had to be done to run 225s on the ST? Was the fender rolled also?

Murgatroy
07-29-2006, 09:08 PM
I believe they were running less offset than you have. If you roll the lip just a hair outward/up it should clear, it depends on how badly you are rubbing. The other option would be to do like Adrian and flatten the lip inward, that would be more difficult to do on your own and retain the paint though. Basically you snip the inner lip every few inches and use a rubber mallet and a piece of wood and bend the lip all the way around. However, this may not solve your rubbing depending on how far out it is hitting. You may also have to roll the lip after flattening it. Which would be your best bet.

GRUMPY514

Rolling seems to be the best. It rubs going over dips and bumps and somtimes accelerating hard.

It would rub like no tommarow if I had people sitting in the back.

Have to call some shops around here and get a price quote on rolling the fenders.

lol.

They said I got two options, flaring out the rears a little or cutting that lip inside the fender and shaving it down smooth. Then laying down some epoxy on it so it dosent rust for the time being.

They heat up the metal to help prevent cracking paint. It happens even the best of the best it happens.

Yeah, like a pry bar. You are trying to lift the car off the tire, the pressure of the weight of the car will cause the lip to roll. It will also roll the tip back up inside as the outer lip rolls out, fattening. Go slow and be patient otherwise you will damage your paint.

However if you have found a shop to do it, allow them to, it saves you all the hassle and only costs you money.

In my opinion I would stick to the slip streams, I like the 16's. I think its ideal for autox and draging. I don't see why you would make such a big deal about having big fat tires in the rear of a fwd car. Or atleast having them stick out. Should have gotten a gts but then again as Play mentioned, when it comes down to it, its kind of dumb.

Hey GRUMPY I think if you use smaller sidewall tires it could make a difference in whether it rubs or not. Right around 225/40/16. I used the tire calculator to see if it could make a difference it would give you an inch or so buffer between the tire and the fender.
