Ok so a friend of mine who owns and MR2 with a Gen3 swap lost compression on a cylinder and ended up buying a ST205 motor. He just wanted the block so I might be buying everything else from him. I know that the engine was a ST205 RC engine because the turbo has all the anti-lag crap on it. The thing niether him or I know is why the TOYOTA CT-26 is stamped on the turbo like all the gen2s. I know I've read something about this somewhere but after searching I couldn't find it so if someone here can shed some light on this situation that would be great. Thanks

How many stud holes are there on the turbine/downpipe flange?
It could be that someone put a CT26 in there.

I'll ask him but I don't think anyone would go through the trouble of hooking up a lesser turbo and all the anti lag stuff to it.

Common swap in japan is to change the CT20b for a big upgraded CT26. Just the way they do things there. Does it look upgraded? Is the compressor wheel pretty big? A stock CT26 would run pig rich if installed on an ST205. Or it could be a hybrid CT20b/26. Check how many stud holes on the exhaust side.

Also it would be the WRC edition. No "RC" for the 205.

^^ beat me to it!

there wasnt a rc for the st205 motor. But take off the cold side part of the turbo look at the wheel and compare it to a picture of a ct26. If the compressor wheel is a lot bigger then its definately a upgraded turbo.

Sorry guys I did know there wasn't an RC version of the ST205. WRC is close enough. I'm still checking into the number of studs.

Ok, it is only 6 studs, and he hasn't had a chance to compare it to a normal CT26 or even his CT20b.

6 studs = CT26

the ct26 3rd gen is 7 studed downpipe I believe. also the air inlet of the turbo is significantly bigger than the supra ct26 which is bigger than the st185 turbo. If there was not custom upgrade on that ct26 you got robbed either in japan, or here in the u.s. that turbo on the rc model 3rd gen is pretty tight. I would not swap that for a reg ct 26, the bearings are fucken dope too.

It's 6 studs, and it is on the WRC version hence all the anti-lag crap. So are you saying that even with the 6 studs it's better or just that someone replaced it?

even with the 6 studs bro its going to better than the regular ct26 form the 185 or the supra. With the anti lag stuff on the manifold your spool will be pretty insane. Who know, whomever had that turbo probably either rebuilt it or modified it. YOu'll soon find out.

Don't run it on the street unless you want to replace your turbo every few hundred miles... (the WRC guys replace their turbo every service!)

The WRC guys use incolnel turbines too... that helps a bit ;)

7 stud is CT20B, not CT26
Only Toysport call them CT26

True.

that turbo on the rc model 3rd gen is pretty tight. I would not swap that for a reg ct 26, the bearings are fucken dope too.
and again, there is no "RC" model on 3rd gen 3sgte.
It is "WRC"

even with the 6 studs bro its going to better than the regular ct26 form the 185 or the supra.
????
There is no 6 stud turbo from ST205.
They are all came with CT20B (7 stud)

Antilag does not function from factory on ST205 WRC.

true that, I thought you had a complete set up, ecu and all on that motor. True about the turbo life too. Listen to the rally cars pop as they rev through the courses.

The antilag system, EVEN WITH the complete setup, doesn't work... it's on there just for homologation purposes, deactivated. I've yet to hear of anyone enabling the ST205 anti-lag or the intercooler mister using the OEM equipment.

I believe there was someone on Celispeed that did it....

Nope again. :)
The Supra and 3SGTE CT26 have the same size inlet and outlet.
I should know.
I have 2 Supra and 3 3SGTE turbos....
And I believe the CT20b has the same size as the rest....

Also, how can you have a hybrid CT20b/CT26?
The shafts are different sizes.
Only way I can think of is the CT26 exhaust housing on a CT20b.
